  1. Im trying to find some good Avisynth settings to frameserve my DV-AVI (PAL) to CCE. I'm told CCE does not like DV-AVI...? I can check 'Upper field first', but uncheking is not 'Bottom field first'...? Can Avisynt help me do this? I have tried 'Swapfields ()' but the result is not as good as expected (jittery pictures).
My goal is to produce DVD MPEG-2 at max CCE settings for playing on my standalone DVD player (PAL). Any other Avisynth settings I shold try?
(I have posted similar questions earlier, and for those giving me help: Thanks!)

I can't offer any advice on Avisynth setting as I used to use it at a very basic level, however, I found that CCE (certainly v2.50 that I was using) always encoded Top Fied First regardless of the check box option.

One of the moderators along time ago pointed me to a product called ReStream (links are on this site if you search) which switches the field order BACK to lower field first which your original PAL DV would have been in and it stops the jerky playback. It's another step but it is a fast process.

  3. ReStream is for the MPEG2 file (as far as I can see), does this affect the quality of the encoded file in any way?

Yes you run the resulting MPEG file (the .m2v demuxed file not the .mpg muxed with audio) and it can switch the field orders back around - no impact to quality. Then remux using TMPG or BBMPG, auhthor and burn and hopefully no jerky playback 1
