  1. Iv'e been backing up dvd's for a while now and iv'e found that they do not work on all standalones. Im using smartripper, dvd1.1 and stomp. There really good copy's but iv'e recently come across a couple of dvd players that wont play them. Iv'e bought a couple of copy's in the past and they work fine on the same players. Im i missing something. [/i][/b]

  2. I assume you put all the DVD files into a VIDEO_TS folder and then burn that folder. Also IMO you need to close or finalize the DVDR for it to play in most players. I don't know what the program "dvd1.1" is but have you tried the free program DVDshrink? It's fast does a great job and it free, can't ask for more than that. Oh you may want to try a different brand of media to see if that's a problem.

  3. Some DVD players - usually the older ones - won't play DVD-R's at all, period. Relatively speaking they are rare, but they are out there.

Some are picky on the media you use. You might find you have to use specific media for the target player in extreme cases (I have access to a Wharfdale that only seems to like Zero Defex, for example).

When you say you've bought copies before, if they're pirates from Taiwan or something (in which case you might like to keep that to yourself, forum rules forbid the advocation of pirated material), then they were probably pressed in a semi-legitimate factory and therefore not on recordables. Or they might be using recordables but fair to reasonable quality media bought in extreme bulk at wholesale prices or off the back of a lorry at a price that was right at the time.

  6. Sometimes they do not play if when converted in different programs. But what alot of people are not doing is checking it in IFO Edit. If you go to your created VIDEO_TS folder and open the ifo file in IFO Edit from that dvd then click on get VTS SECTORS. It will then correct anything that is not in the right place, just click Yes to everything and close. Then burn as normal. It might make a difference , it might not but try it and see.

  7. The dvd players that wont play my backups are pretty new and the ones they do play are on normal dvd-r discs that i can pick up anywhere. If i copy the back up that works on to one of my own blank dvd-r discs it will then play on all the standalones. It;s only the ones that i rip and burn myself that i have a problem with and im even closing the disc. Im using dvd2one.1 and record now max to burn.

  8. So you have been backing up for a while then! If the DVD's you back up won't play, then try the IFO Edit trick then. Does not matter how new they are, all DVD's you back up will go through the same process what ever.
Encoding etc! It sounds to me a DVD Disk problem. Who knows! Well like I said try IFO Edit and see. I never close the disk, its a habbit of mine. So if it the ones you rip the there is something wrong with the way you are doing it. DVD IS A LONG LEARNING CURVE!!!!
Keep going till you get it right!!!
