Does DTOX do any transcoding if the movie will already fit on a DVD-R? Or does it just assemble the VIDEO_TS folder correctly? Thanks.

DTOX doesn't perform any significant compression if the files are small enough to fit on a 4.7 GB disk.
There have been several instances where I've used DTOX to extract just the movie from a disk filled with extras and where those files are less than disk-size. I used to use OSEX to strip out the elementary streams and rebuild in DVDSP, but I find that DTOX is a lot faster/easier.
Some early comparisons showed that the file sizes were close enough that there was essentially no compression going on. -
if the whole disc is under 4.7 , you would just use dvdbackup or osex. there is no need to go to dtox. but if the movie you want is under 4.7, like the animal, spy kids 2, or once a thief, it does no compression and just takes that movie and makes the dvd.

Using DTOX is a lot easier (as stated) than rebuilding chapters and whathaveyou in Sizzle or something.

But if you are wanting to backup the movie. Simply use DVDBackup to extract teh VIDEO_TS folder, then reauthor the folder to a DVD. No compression, and the DVD you burn will be exactly the same as the original. Chapter points, menus, extras, everything. BUt only for movies under 4.4GB.

The movie (Sum of All Fears) would be under 4.4 if I don't include the 4 languages and all the subtitles. That's why I need to run it through something (OSeX-Sizzle or DVDBackup-DTOX).
