  1. Guys I know this may have been answered somewhere else but after 3 days of hunting and trying things I thought I would just ask here. I have an SVCD that I want burned onto a DVD. I tried the new TMPGEnc DVD author program and it works great except after I burned the DVD the screens aspect ratio is stretched so I only see 2/3rds of the screen on my TV. Before I ran TMPGEnc DVD Author I repatched all my Mpeg 2 files from 480x480 to 352x480 so the conversion from mpeg to VOB would be successful. After that I burned the VOB's. IFO files etc onto a DVD with the same resolution and when my screen was stretched I repatched it with DVD Patcher back to 480x480 and reburned it to DVD. I still got the same stretched screen. I tried 720x480 and then the screen gets real small only taking up half my tv's screen. I am lost and I am sure there is an app out there that can manipulate VOB files or something. Can someone help me with this? I have read that there is a keep aspect ratio setting that suppose to fix this but TMPGEnc DVD author doesnt seem to have this feature. I have tried the regular TMPGEnc program but the sound was out of sync. I really dont want to reinvent the wheel here. my desire if possible is to keep my current VOB's created with the DVD authoring program and some how manipulate those to get the correct aspect ratio to show on my TV. your input would be greatly appreciated. By the way I did try 16.9 aspect with DVD patcher with no success.

If the frame is "squeezed" on the TV screen (assume you have a 4:3 TV), it appears to be that the DVD is authored as 16:9 and the DVD player is compensating for that. I have not tried the Tmpgenc DVD authoring program (yet), but I suppose it should have such a setting somewhere to select if the DVD is a 4:3 or a 16:9 one.

If not, then perhaps the authoring program decides based on the encoding option inside the MPEG-2 video stream you give it. Could it be that you have encoded the video with a 16:9 option (instead of a 4:3)?
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

  4. There isnt any way to change it in The TMPGEnc DVD author program and I think you may be right as to it going by the original aspect ratio of the Mpeg which is 4.3....The movie only appears quished when I try 16.9 or any resolution higher than 480x480. These resolution changes were all done by DVD patcher. Ifoedit says the aspect ratio of the IFO files is 4.3 permenant and I didnt see anyway to change it in ifoedit. I am not real familiar with that program. That was why I was hoping someone would know a program that I could use to change it with the current IFO's I have. By the time I figure this out the damn real DVD will be out in stores but its more principal and not letting this whole thing beat me.

I have the exact same problem and boy was I glad to see this post (although disappointed to see no resolution)!

Oddly enough, I had used DVD Patcher to take XSVCD content to DVD-R successfully in the past (using ULead DVD Moviefactory). I'm STUMPED and it seems so is the forum. My video is also shrunk when I view in Moviefactory and is also not correct when I author the DVD (then burn).

    H E L P!

Why can't we patch our XSVCD or SVCD content to author to DVD!!!
