  1. SSIA. I'm trying to burn a 709mb divx .avi file to 80min cdr. When I go to burn, Nero reports that it is now 743mb and won't fit on the media. I tried overburn and that won't work. I'm trying to burn as ISO and not converting to anything. I don't want to split the file and shave off a couple of megs. Help!?

  2. If you are burning as an ISO, 700 MB is really your limit. Overburn will add maybe one more MB, but that is it. And I think overburn only works when you are burning a disc-at-once in mode 2 (i.e. what you use for VCDs). You'll have to re-encode or split.

  3. Well you can't blame Nero too much. The max size for a mode 1 80 min cd is about 700-703 mb (w/ overburning). A vcd burned in mode 2 can store up to 795 mb, but that's because of reduced error correction restrictions of vcds and audio files as opposed to data files. To get all of your avi (a data file) on one cd you might want to try burning in mode 2/xa, which I am not sure Nero will let you do for a data file. So check out this link, it will explain what I just stated above and give you guidance on how to make a mode 2 cd..

You are over the max. The avi file is treated like a data file not a vcd or svcd which are recorded in mode 2 and allow up to 800mb.

There is a free source project, I believe at sourceforge.net that is attempting to bypass this limit but it may still be experimental. I know there are trial programs available but haven't tested them myself.

You could also try to get a 90 minute cdr if you don't want to cut or reencode your avi.

I once had an avi that was just above the limit and I zipped it or winrared it using max compress and managed to compress it just enough to fit on an 80 min cdr.
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.

  5. Avi is data max = 703 probably +1 overburn. Convert to mpg and burn as a vcd keep file under 830 and you will be fine

  6. converting to vcd could mean a huge loss in quality for the same size.

  7. I'm sure I've managed to squeeze more than that overburning a data cd (think I remember getting >710Mb on. Try following this guide

  8. Thanks all. I think I might just go the 90 min cd route.

Try trimming the credits, usually works for me. You can also try trimming the begining, ususally the first minute or 2 has nothing to do with the movie.

  10. Hi,

I just wanted to say i managed to get up to 83m34s on a 80min CDR. This comes down to around 725MB !!!! So the file mentioned shouldn't be a problem. The only thing i don't understand is why nero saids it will be 743 MB ....

  11. The work around for this is to burn the divx as a VCD.
Open nero select non compliant and burn. you will find the file in MPEGAV folder oce you have burned it. The 90 minute cds option still isnt an option as these only burn in drives that except 90mins about a handful of makes and nero will still only see 80mins on the disk the rest is done in overburn.

  12. My drive will handle a 90 min disc. The problem is trying to find one! So far it seems that I have to go online to get them as the major retailers like CompUsa and MicroCenter don't carry them yet. I just might end up trimming it after all.
