I burnt a vcd using nero from a .mpg file
mpgprop says:
video: 320 240 29,97 fps 1.150Mbit/s
audio: MPEG layer 2, coding 1, bitrate 192kbit/s
It wasnt standard ntsc, so I uncheck the "create standard compliant cd"
some ppl said this would be ok and still playble, true??
results:
on cdrw: plays ok prefectly fine
on cdrom: plays ok in the middle but pretty messed up (mozaic) here and there. basically bad playback
on my dvdplayer: wont play at all, says error disk
on my friends cdrom/cdrw: wont play, the cd read as Audio CD on "my computer" folder
first, why it plays ok on my cdrw even though it wasnt burnt properly? (I know Im so stupid)
second, Im gonna try to use tmpgenc to make it standard before burning it to a vcd. After reading the "How to convert to VCD with TMPGEnc", I still unclear about some options. How do I tell the source properties to fill the "expert setting for source". (video type interlace/non, aspect ratio)
These might be stupid post, stupid question and such
but Im a newbie who needs some pointers and helps
pls reply with helps/tips/tricks not flame![]()
thanks,

Most of that won't be necessary.
I'm assuming you're still working with the original MPEG file or you've extracted the MPG file from the VCD
TMPGEnc File->Mpeg Tools
Simple de-multiplex..splits the MPEG into an audio stream and a video stream.
Convert the audio stream to 224 rate... you can select "audio only" (or something similar) in TMPG and do just the audio stream if there's no other way for you to do this.
When done, return to Mpeg Tools (in TMPG) and do a simple multiplex. This will join your video and audio tracks back into a MPG file. Burn it on a cd-rw. Watch it. Enjoy it.
You don't want to re-encode the video if you don't have to. The hit you'll take in quality will ruin the disc and it will take hours. If you use the above method it may take an hour if you take your time. The 320x240 resolution should be okay. I'm betting it's the audio that's giving you the trouble. Burn to a re-writeable just in case though.

Well, my first stab at creating a VCD followed your method to the letter - and my stand alone refused to play them. Didn't even try. At the verge of giving up this business completely, I tried VCDEasy, and lo and behold; not a single coaster since! If your CD writer isn't supported by VCDEasy, uncheck the Burn check box, and burn the cue/bin VCDEasy creates with Nero. At least in my case, the problem was somewhere in Neros authoring, that my player didn't like.

i never use nero to encode to mpg, its naff
i use tmpgenc to convert then nero to burn
have a look at me doc i wrote to show how to fit a good quality film on 1 cd
