  1. Hi,

I have a few XViD's which are using this as the audio compression...I'm trying to convert to MPG so I can make a vcd/svcd out of it...my problem is, I can't get the damn audio to extract when I use virtualdub....I tried using avi2wav and that extracts it and then I tried using besweet to compress to mp2...but it crashes my system...are there any other suggestions? Thanks!

  2. Take the wave and use it as your audio source in tmpgenc and use the "audio only" stream type and under settings, set your parameters like sampling rate, bitrate etc. Tmpgenc should be your first free choice for creating mp2s.

  3. So TMPGEnc can convert it to mp2? If so, could you explain more detail on how to do it? Thanks...

  4. Try goldwave from the tools section of this webpage. You just load your film into it and extract the audio as a wav file. Then use vdub to create an avi without the audio. When you open the film in vdub under the audio option choose "no audio." Then in the video option choose direct stream copy. Then click on file and choose "save as avi." Choose a location and name for your audioless avi and vdub will save it without the audio. You will now have three files, the original avi, an avi without the audio, and a wav file created from the original avi. If you want to frameserve from vdub choose the avi without the audio when you load the film. Then under the audio selection choose "wav audio." Navigate to the wav file you created and select it. You can now frameserve the film with both sound and video. In the options selection of vdub just make sure that "sync to audio" is checked. If you don't want to frameserve just load the files directly into TMPG.

  5. Ok...I tried the goldwave and it did extract the audio from the movie...and I used tmpgenc to extract the audioless movie...what my problem is...is that to my understanding...in order for tmpgenc to multiplex the movie...the audio has to be in some other format than a wav file...because when I try to load the wav file...it just says illegal MPEG stream or something...i also tried another movie and i ran avi2wav to get the wav file, ran besweet to convert the wav to a mp2 and used tmpgenc to get just the video and reloaded it back in tmpgenc with a m1v file as the video and a mp2 file as the sound....and it worked except there was no audio whatsoever....and when I play the mp2 file that besweet made you can hear the sound...so thats why im really stumped :P I tried pretty much everything...if someone can like...experiment and see if they have the same problem....use virtdub and open the avi (xvid preferably) and where it says audio source or something mine says the fraunhofer IIS MPEG layer 3 codec...thanks..

  6. You seem to be doing a lot of extra steps. If you followed my instructions you shouldn't have any problems. TMPG will accept the wav file in the audio section of the encoding window. You should also extract the video in vdub as an avi. When you open the encoder load the avi in the video window and the wav file in the audio window. TMPG will multiplex the video as it encodes it.

  7. I didn't have time to read everything in this thread, but from the gist i got the problem you're having with tmpgenc is that you are trying to use a compressed audio source. Wav files are not compressed, so tmpgenc will use them properly. While tmpgenc might not specifically complain when you use an mp2 as the source audio, you will find that your resulting files have no audio because tmpgenc doesn't handle compressed audio sources like mp2, mp3 very well (there are probably exceptions, but this is just from my general experience).

If you're still set on using tmpgenc to make an mp2, then its simple. Load up the program, and make sure that you close the wizard if it pops up. then browse to select your audio source (preferably a wav file), and then select "audio only" as you stream type on the bottom right. Then press the settings button, which is just below the stream type options, and there you can set the parameters of the mp2, such as sampling rate etc. Of course exit settings and press start. Select an ouput filename if you haven't already. I hope this makes it a little clearer.

  8. Ok...well see....maybe my system is wierd or something...but if I use VirtDub to extract the wav file, when I try to load it into tmpgenc...it says its an invalid MPEG Stream....but if I use besweet to convert the wav to mp2...then it loads into tmpgenc fine...but I downloaded like every codec and it seemed to work...except when I use Nero to burn the mpg as vcd...it said its invalid and needs to re-encode it...so i'm going to let nero re-encode it and see if it works.

In VDUB, you need to save the audio as uncompressed WAV. Not an MP3. In TMPG you will have 1 audio file and 1 video file, and they will NOT be the same file (as is the case of opening an AVI file).

  10. Ok..well I finally got it all to work properly Now, I'm running into another problem...the xvid's are widescreen format, but when I use TMPGEnc to extract the avi into a m1v format, it makes it full screen...how do I keep the same aspect ratio?
