  1. When the packaging changed from full cases in boxes to slims in thin boxes, the media changed from Pioneer to Maxell
I'm new to this game, so that's something I didn't know. Thanks.

I've been shopping for Maxell discs thinking that I might have a better chance of compatibility with my no-media-retailer-knows-anything-about the HL-DT-ST GCA-4020B burner in my dual G4, and beyond being very difficult to find branded Maxells, I note that the branded ones have a green dye layer. The current Apple 2X discs are light purple.

The Maxell unbranded bulk disks sold by several media sites have a light purple dye layer, so I'm not sure if those would be the functional equivalent of the pricy Apple 2X discs or not ...

I really want to buy a batch of discs and I'm finding it difficult to find anyone who has the HL-DT-ST GCA-4020B burner and can offer advice re: these disks work and these other disks don't.

Here at work we use the Maxell 2x disks and they work great. We've only ever had probably 10 disks that were bad. Out of about 2000. They work great and are very reliable. Great media.

Which Maxell disks are you using? The branded green dye ones or the the unbranded light-purple dye ones?

And on what brand and model of burner?

I have this drive (lg burner).. Ritek G03 work really good. No coaster at all so far (over 20 burn)

Princo also burn without problem, but I had problem with last minute of a movie, so I don't really recomand them over 4gig

Branded Green Tops, Purple Bottoms. Maxell DVD-R 4.7GB Single Sided DR47 Disk.

    We've used them with a Panasonic DMR-HS2 Recorder, Pioneer DVR-105, and a Pioneer DVR-104.

  7. Why does Taiyo Yuden never get mentioned in these kind of poles? if it's because of price then Mitsui is more expensive and that got mentioned.

I guarantee that if you tried Taiyo Yuden, you will never have a compatibility problem. The same goes for Mitsui. I will never buy cheap, you get what you pay for.

  8. I am new to this DVD-R burning, but I have used NanYa 2x and BeAll media and they have worked great so far (touch wood)

Burnt about 3 of each; data and movies.
    Thx in Advance!!

  10. Is Imation DVD media reliable? I used Imation CD-R for data back up before and I found all the CD-Rs that I used are over 80% non-accessible in my CD-ROMs... and most of the CDs got read error while they were OK when I burnt them... I think I lost all confidence in Imation media...

  11. Verbatims suck because you can never tell which Southeast Asian country they came from. One batch will work and one won't, you can just never tell. Apples are great, but my #1 choice is Ritek G03. Can't beat the combination of price and compatibility.
