I have a rather interesting problem. Well at least it is to me. I am having trouble getting Mpeg sound to play on my standalone in bitstream mode when I author with certain apps. Now I admit most of this is fairly new and I still have alot to learn, but before you tell me to just switch my player to PCM, please read what is happening and forgive my ignorance.

I can take an avi or mpg file with Mpeg 1 layer 2 audio and burn a VCD with VCDEasy and it will play fine on my stand alone dvd player with the output set to Bitstream. I can also author a DVD with MyDVD and it will work fine as well. So I don't think it has anything to do with the frequency.

But if I use anything else, DMF2, MediaStudio, TMPGDVD, etc to author the DVD, then I have no sound unless I switch the output on my player to PCM.

Am I correct in thinking that the audio instructions are written in one of the DVD files, VOB, IFO, or somewhere, for the player to follow? If so, is it possible that these apps are giving instructions my player can't handle in Bitstream mode?

I may be way off here, but if I'm even close, then I should be able to find how the instructions are written by MyDVD and then change them in the corresponding files when I author with another app, thus giving my player what it needs to play them in Bitstream mode.

Now I don't mind learning how to edit the files, as trying to remember to switch my player back and forth is a hassle and I really don't like the lack of chapters in MyDVD. So I'm willing to get the guides and learn how to get my hands dirty working in the files themselves.

But before I do, I just want to make sure I'm on the right track here and not about to waste a major amount of time. Plus it would be nice if someone could tell me where to look for these instructions and which guide/software might be helpful.

Of course it is quite possible that I'm totally lost and there is another solution or a simpler way to deal with this. If so, please feel free to let me know...
