  1. Hey CB, I think yer right about the problem being that the movie is PAL. And about the joining problem...I haven't ever watched a multiple svcd movie so I didn't know about the "same" effect. Sorry if I implicated that the program had a serious bug.

  2. I've try SVCD2DVDmpg... all it did was.. broke the file into video and audio... isn't it the same thing as using tmpgenc and doing simple de-multiplex.??? Or maybe i ran the program wrong... cuz i don't quite fully understand the usage..

InC0gNito: just trying to clarify. no worries.

dna: key difference is you can put 10 mpgs in a folder and demux, resample and remux all ten - by clicking one button. With tmpgenc you can do the same but you would be sat at your PC for a full day! (Time is money)

SVCD2DVDMPG+ will do all of that & author your dvd for you as well....

  4. Thanks for the explaination.. but thing is.. you still gotta convert all the audio.. so no matter what you still gotta do the audio file one at a time.. don't you??
Another question: For VCD you just need to convert audio and no patching nessary
and for SVCD you need to convert audio and patch it
to be able to burn vcd and svcd onto dvd-r media..
    is this correct??

true but you start the app let it do it - no need for human intervention

and for SVCD you need to convert audio and patch it
to be able to burn vcd and svcd onto dvd-r media..

yes but i would say "to be able to author a DVDR" is more correct

Either way SVCD2DVDMPG+ does all of that for you without you worrying about it.

  6. CB, thanks for the reply. I was using mpg audio. I tried encoding the video to 48K audio using TMPGENc and then author it with DVDMovieFactory, the resulting video does not have the problem. I will later try mp3 with svcd2dvdmpg+ and see if the problem also exists there.

  7. Anyone able to help me here?

Just bought this wonderful utility (the + version) and on my first attempt to convert 2 bin/cue VCD files to dvd everything appeared to work ok.

When i then try to watch the newly created dvd on my pc OR standalone the picture is fine but the audio is really distorted - the audio and video are in sync but it is if the volume has been turned up really load and the the audio then distorts?

Very odd - picture as mentioned is fine though?

Thanks for any help anyone can shed in this.

  13. OK I have done some more testing and I have some strange results.

I did the Die another Day 3xsvcd and it worked fine on all my machines EXCEPT the Audio didnt work on the Samsung 709 & Yamaha 520

So I redid the file and chose AC-3

Now it works!! on all three *which is nice*

I need to do a few more test, but I am glad it works.

Please observer my comments are CONSTRUCTIVE and in no way am I dissing the software.

    Thanks again

@silas: very glad you've got it working. Criticism is very welcome - that way i can improve the app. One thing i've learnt is that although things may work for me in my little part of the world it doesn't for everyone else. There are also 2 components to the this - the software world & the DVD world.

Anyway thats the reason i got me a high bandwidth shell to host the samples for people to try. Also you have aided me here as i now will do AC-3 versions too.

  16. ChrissyBoy,

In one of your posts you mentioned the limitation of real time previewer of both audio and video in SVCD2DVDMPG. I don't know if you have been following the thread at http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?threadid=46178 by Dimad on his MenuEdit program. I just found it today.

Dimad software can be found here: http://menuedit.dimad.net/home.html

Any how back to the subject, MPEG PREVIEWER. VidHack who often posts here did a lot of research to find FREE viewers. Maybe you can use this information to put a viewer in your software.

This information is from VidHack's post on doom9: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=ca3c7b950fedec5427ca18e7226c0a13&threadid=4617...0&pagenumber=3

"Here are some links to various MPEG2 viewers, all open source, I hope in the future you can merge in this code to give you a 'previewer'.

A DVD player is a relatively easy thing to construct given the right components,
some of which already exist. A simple DVD player would look something like this (as much as ASCII graphs look like anything):

The Pioneer Pan and Scan fix has been added to the latest version in development. But as i don't have a Pioneer DVD player i can't test it that well. If you have been waiting for this then goto https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=157353 (first post 2nd page)

  24. CB:When I convert the VCD using MP3 audio, the hissing sound at the begining of the track goes away. Could it be that the audio level is too high? Is it possible to lower the level when the sound track is converted to 48KHz? MovieFactory 2 does not like mp3 sound track. I tried to use DVDLab and it crashed on me.

  26. ChrissyBoy,

I have a couple of items to give you an update on. I am using your + version and received the update on the weekend for the PIONEER video fix.

    1. Using the "OLD" original Pioneer sample file from you that played GREAT on my Pioneer DV-525, I gave this +RW to a friend to try. He has a APEX 1200. The APEX also has a problem with the horizontal width. The sample played GREAT when he selected NORMAL L/B on the Apex.

    2. I have an SVCD movie on CD-R that is in PAL format. I am using NTSC. The movie plays GREAT from the CD-R. The first problem I had was getting familiar with VCDEasy to convert the .MPG file on the CD to another .MPG file without the RIFF header.

    3. Next on to the converstion. I only worked with 1/2 of the movie (800MB file). I selected AUTHOR, APPLY PAN & SCAN INFO and MPEG-1 Layer 2 audio from your software. It took 14 minutes to create the VIDEO_TS directory from the .MPG file on my XP2200+. I used NERO to burn the +RW.

    4. The Pioneer fix works GREAT for the 525 Thanks for supporting us.

    5. I have two problems, both maybe because of the PAL format playing on my NTSC. 1st problem - picture is in BLACK & WHITE! The second problem, the picture was not centered VERTICALLY but all the way at the bottom of the screen. Since this is my first attempt at converting, I suspect that the problem is in the PAL to NTSC conversion and has nothing to do with your EXELLENT software

Now I need to find an SVCD in NTSC format to try.

    Thanks again.....

Ok so that answer the "does the fix play on other ppls dvds" question: Yes if they change settings... (well 4 APEX)

    Now you are an expert!

picture is in BLACK & WHITE
    That sounds like a TV/DVDplayer NTSC/PAL issue - yes.

the picture was not centered VERTICALLY
As it happens the Pioneer fix is applied only for SVCDs and only NTSC. This is because i read somewhere that it is only NTSC which has the issue - maybe not!

I'd like you to test NTSC SVCD whilst i'll look into the PAL side of things with the Pioneer fix.

Thanks for your assistance in getting to the bottom of this.

  28. CB: i made an svcd->dvd that plays perfectly.. i have found that my previous problems were due to the fact that the movie was in pal... is there a way to get svcd2dvdmpg+ to convert a pal svcd to an ntsc dvd?... as a side note, i am perplexed as to why pal svcds play but pal dvds don't... hmmm

@hcmiller: a few people ask that question, therefore i've added it to the FAQ on my site. But, in short,
svcd2dvdmpg doesn't do anything to the video standard. It resamples the audio and optionally manipulates the headers - thats it. Converting between PAL & NTSC (either way) is quite convoluted & can be long winded. If you own expensive software (e.g. Video Vegas) then you may have an easier route but other wise the best guide I've seen on the subject is: http://www.geocities.com/xesdeeni2001/StandardsConversion
That said - glad you know the issue and can plan ahead.
