Joy Luck Club subtitle question?

In Joy Luck Club, in the scenes where they're talking in Chinese, subtitles show.

I made a SVCD of it (using DVD2SVCD) with subtitles, but the subtitles shows for the whole movie.

and I made another one without the subtitles, and no such luck, i couldn't understand what they were saying in Chinese.

so can anyone know how to make it so only a certain part of the movie has it (where it needs translations) and not the rest.

you need to see if one of the sub streams is the "forced subs" stream.
