    Hi all,

My source is interlace 720x576 PAL. I'm doing NLE with Premiere and encode with TMPGenc. Is it better to deinterlace the source? If yes, when is the best time to deinterlace? Before NLE or before encoding or during encoding?

The other question is, when is the best time to resize the movie? I'm developing VCD PAL 352x288. My guess is after NLE, before encoding.

It is bad to deinterlace interlaced source, but since VCD is the final option, you have no choice. MPEG1 is a non-interlaced format. The deinterlace options should be something you select DURING final encode (export from Premiere).

How's that Premiere -> TMPGenc working for you? I gave up. WAY TOO SLOW for me. AVIsynth or the VideoServer Tools from videotools.net?

    Ever consider Cleaner or MainConcept?

  3. Why not just create a CVD or SVCD and avoid deinterlacing. Unless the source was teleclined, then its almost always bad to deinterlace. There is no perfect method to deinterlace, no matter what method you chose there is a side effect.

    Agreed. Make CVD or SVCD.
And read up at www.100fps.com for info on interlace theory.

I wish I could go for CVD or SVCD, but I only have VCD player. I have no problem to buy one, but since the home video is to be watched by my parents and my wife's parents at their place, this mean I have to get three players.

I agree with txpharoah, the TMPGenc can do better for this task but the speed would kill my PC. I've just started to use Avisynth for the deinterlacing and sizing, just that I could not get a right script for that purpose. I have tried a few times but I got unsync audio or bad video. Appreciate if anyone can share me a good script and process for this purpose. Here are the details:

Source : DV PAL 720x576 25FPS from Sony DV (DCR-TRV340E)
Capture & NLE : Need suggestion....
    Deinterlacing/Sizing : Need suggestion here... (Avisynth/VirtualDub)
    Filtering : Need suggestion ...
    Intended output : VCD PAL

    Thanks in advanced.

    Regards,
    tempe
