    Hello!
This forum is really great. I’m only about four months into a digital video world, but I’ve learned a lot from you guys.
I those four months I successfully transferred almost all my VHS and Hi8 tapes to DVD’s just learning stuff from this forum. Thank you.
I’ve just purchased Sony digital camcorder and moving to lull scale digital video, and my question is:
If there is any benefit connecting camcorder through ADVC-100, or just go straight to FW card. There is anything done to the signal by ADVC-100 during transfer, or this is just convenient pass-thru feature
    Thank you

    Hi,

I may not be able to answer your question, but I am new to this transfer VHS/8mm to DVD.

Do you have the steps to do it? I plan to buy the ADVC-100.

What software/programs are you using to capture, to edit, and finally to turn it into DVD, then what do you use to burn it?

    Thanks for any help. :P

the advd-100 will come with necessary programs, you will need a firewire card.

Mine came with dvdworkshop...you can capture, edit, burn all from this one program.

    I love mine.

  4. I think Digital video is digital video

If your camera can ouput DV then just plugit into the firewirecard.

If you can do this that means that your camera already has a analog - digital converter integrated just same as what the Canopus ADVC products do.

I have a Canopus ADVC 50 and use DVIO or Pinnacle studio8 to capture works great!

    I mostly ouput to VCD.
When DVD High defenition comes i will start authoring to that instead

    Good Luck!

I don't have my ADVC-100 manual in front of me to check, but I thought I remembered something about not being able to control your camera (i.e. play, ff, rw, etc.) when passing through the ADVC-100.
I never connect through the ADVC-100.
I have three firewire ports. One for my camera, one for the ADVC-100, and one free.

I would recommend that you go to Uleads website and download a few of the trials. I use Video Studio and DVD workshop and am very happy with them. I have also heard good things about Movie Factory.

    Good luck both of you!
Just what is this reality thing anyway?

    U are right.
Whean I go through ADVC-100 I can't control my camera (or Digital VCR).
I dit some small clips using both ways and as far as the signal quality I can't see any diference.
I also have three FW ports on my card . 1-ADVC, 2-Sony 500-UL, 3-Digital VCR. Perfect setup I do not have to change cables everytime.
    Thanks.

From personal exprience I would also recomend U-lead procucts.
Moovie Factoty 2 is pretty basic, easy and fast for starters.
Video Studio 7 will give you lot of editing functions like tiltes, transisions
    and other effects.
Try'em both and decide for yourself

    Hi Dasio.
There is no benefit whatsoever of passing the digital signal through yoru ADVC-100.
Firewire is the best way and is lossless, ie. you will lose no quality in transfer between your camcorder and pc (via Firewire).

Consider Pinnacle Studio, I find it superb for DV editing and it's really, really simple to use.
Ulead Movie Factory is fine but has no editing facility whatsoever so I would have thought isn't much use if you wish to polish up your footage.
I tried Ulead VideoStudio 7 and didn't like it.
