I've been trying to burn one MPEG-2 movie file totaling 1.6GB at 480x480 running at 29.970FPS. I add the video and continue on past preview to the Finish section. I check 'Record to Disc' and then click Output. A few seconds after I click Output, I get the following error:
Failed to convert video file
Error: 80041c21
I've tried all the that I know to do, even reinstalling MF2. If you have any suggestions, please let me know.
Thanks,
Goos-fah-bah

did you decode the file with TMPGEnc first? if not , then try decoding it then under template settings(in mf2) select the same bitrate you used in tmpgenc and mf2 should'nt have to decode it at all. hope this helps you out. 8)

I try to debug problems like this by trying first converting a very short .avi to SVCD format using DVD MovieFactory 2.
Then I burn to a CD-RW as a test.
Have you tried a short file as a test?
If you succeed with the short file and you fail with the large file, it would suggest there's some problem with the way the large file was encoded.

Decode the video to what? It's an SVCD MPEG-2, isn't that burnable format?

SVCD is a burnable format to a CD-R under 800MB, if you want to burn a SVCD to a DVDR you 1st must let it convert it over to a DVD complaint format, set your custom setting up as 6000 bitrate and audio as MP3 224 and let it convert the 480x480 over to DVD complaint and then save it as a VIDEO_TS file and use something like NERO or Recordnow Max to burn it, I don't trust the built in burning of MF2.
now if this what you are trying to do and you get an error, then you need to put it in TMPGE and multiplex it 1st so it will write the correct headers. -
ok , it's like this. svcd IS a dvd compliant format. BUT, in svcd format , your runing at about 750 kbps and a resolution of about 460x252 or something. What you want to do is go to the tools section and find TMPGEnc. download that and it will convert the movie to dvd format which can run up to 8000 kbps and will have a resolution of 720x480 which is the proper resoluion for dvds. just go as high a bitrate as you can and still stay under 4.3gigs and youll be fine.now you see , when you load an svcd into mf2, it wants to reconvert it to 720x480 and a higher bitrate. but when you convert it first and then setup a template under template manager that has the SAME bitrate as you used to decode it, then mf2 won't decode it and will move right on to audio/video multiplexing.now TMPGEnc does take a LONG time to decode thing, but it's very worth it as it gives you the absolute best quality for your upcomeing dvds. also, it doesn't create the audio/video sync problems that mf2 can when it convert files. if you have a wide-screen movie to convert, dont forget to set the video arange methode to keep aspect ration under expert settings in tmpgenc. i hope this will help you.
PS TMPGEnc is the BEST tool to use to decode downloaded kazaa movies. post here if you have any other questions. -
480by 480 SVCD is not a supported DVD format
In NTSC (USA format)
720 by 480, 352 by 480 and 352 by 240 are supported resolutions, as taken from MF2, But the audio must be LPCM or 48Khz MPEG format to be compliant.
It seems to me as I recall it that MF2 should re-encode to standard DVD format, I do not know why it isn't unless it is using some codec auch as MPEG4 , Divx, xvid or whatever. However the encode will be slow.
Maybe you could try the header patch trick and burn a DVD RW for testing purposes. Look under Conversion/Encoding on the left for VCD Header trick. I use DVD Patcher under Tools on left and it works wonders for me on my players.
Good Luck

sorry.now my point is the reason mf2 is trying to convert it to 720x480 and a higher bitrate, but it sucks at converting and gives you errors like this and produces a/v sync problems. im just sugesting that me convert it with tmpgenc first so mf2 doesn't have to.
