Hello everybody.
I started capturing video from VHS and TV (I live in Italy, thus we have a PAL system).
Some captures present a "ghost" effect (as described on www.100fps.com).
I capture with a BT8x8 card from VCR via composite. I use VirtualDub with BTWinCap drivers or iuVCR with the card WDM manufacturer's drivers. I use both Huffyu and MJPEG codec.
Sometimes, depending on what I'm trying to capture, there are those "ghost" effects. For example on C.S.I. or Mad About You.
If I deinterlace with VirtualDub using the "Deinterlace - Smooth" filter from the website of Gunnar Thalin, as suggested on www.100fps.com, the resulting file is perfectly deinterlaced and there are no ghost effects (even though the file is bigger and it is 50 fps).
Since I'd like to put my captures on DVD, I have to econde the AVI files with TMPGEnc.
That's why I'd like to skip one step, and let TMPGEnc deinterlace the AVI file during the MPEG2 encoding.
I looked for some documentation on TMPGEnc deinterlace options, but couldn't find anything.
There are four types of TMPGEnc deinterlace:
- Even Field
- Odd Field
- Double (or Blend)
- Even-Odd
Does anybody know the difference among those types of deinterlace?
The first two should be the discard of half of the frames.
The third shold be the blend deinterlace.
What is the fourth? Is it like the Bob deinterlace in VirtualDub or AviSynth.
The ghost effects disappear with the first two, remain with the third and disappear with the fourth.
Fact is, I'd like not to lose quality of informations (the even field and odd field deinterlacing halves the resolution).
Can anybody explain TMPGEnc deinterlace options?
Thankyou.
Byebye,
Massi.
