hi all! i just wana ask if i should turn off my laptop and defragment every after i do a video converting? cuz i got a p4 1.6 254DDR and my first converting was an hour video and it was kinda fast... took bout an hour and a half but then i converted a 15minute video and it took an hour a 15minutes... so should i defrag now? and give my laptop a break? or is it ok to leave it on 24/7...? and if i should turn it off... how long? an hour? 2? 3? etc... oh ya my laptop is acting kinda slow now...

second, when i convert, and go to da MPEG Setting and then to advance and i check "noise reduction" "sharpen edge" "simple color correction" if i check all of this will it make my video quality better? and willl this make da converting longer?

    thanks guys

  2. Putting a big file on your laptop (or any hard disk - that fact that it's a laptop is neither here nor there) and then deleting it means that it's gone.

Unless you put any other big files on at the same time which you're going to keep for a while, once you delete it, you don't need to defragment.

Defrag is good anway, but don't overdo it - unless you move a hell of a lot of data around, once a month should be enough.

I always keep system files and data files on a different partition. That way, big data files don't interact with your system / ms office / other program files.

There are quite a few re-partioning softwares around which can be run without having to re-install your OS. Try Partition Magic, cheapish and still the best.

As for leaving your laptop on, 24/7/365 should be fine, just make sure it's not on a surface like a cloth, or whatever - most laptops actually don't like being on anything other than wood / metal / desk laminate etc. They actually hate laps, and beds, and carpets, 'cos they can play havoc with their cooling systems / temperatures.
