  1. I need this information A.S.A.P! Film festival entries are due tommorow and I cant export my fully edited video back to my camcorder. I am using Adobe Premiere 6.0 with USB (I know I know) connection to a Sony TRV22. MY computer is a 2.4GHZ Sony Vaio with Windows XP, 512DDR and 80GB HD. I IMPORTED the video from my camcorder directly to Premiere using the provided USB cable. Now, I want to EXPORT it from my computer back to my MiniDV camcorder. Everytime I try it, it goes through the whole Building Preview mess, then a message pops up saying that there is no Dv Device connected. Please dont assume that I have already changed settings on camcorder or in Premiere or computer, so any suggestions are welcome.......FAST! Thanks in Advanced.

  2. The only video you could've captured to your computer via the usb cable is an mpeg file you had saved on your memory stick. You CANNOT transfer DV video from you camcorder to your computer via USB. You must use firewire (sony calls it iLink). The reason Premiere can't communicate w/ your DV Device (camcorder) is b/c it's not plugged in to the firewire port on either your computer or camcorder.

  3. I dont think this video came off of a Memory Stick, since I didnt put the camera on Memory, I putit on VCR and played it back on the computer through Premiere. So areyou saying I need a Firewire(iLink) cable? I always thought you could transfer from camcroder to commputer and back through USB, it just isnt as good quality as Firwire......

  4. So you captured the video via the analog cables into a capture card on your computer? The only possible way you could've captured video via USB from you camcorder (if not from the memory stick) is if you had USB streaming (makes the camcorder a webcam) and captured as you shot the video. Is that what you did?
At any rate, it is not possible to 'transfer to tape' via the USB cable. You must use an iLink cable.
If you don't have a firewire card in your computer, but have video output on your video card, you could connect the video out from your computer to the video in (the microphone looking jack which has the yellow, red, and white cables on the other end... btw that's also the analog video out for the camera). Make sure the camcorder is set to VCR, and be sure that the 'A/V input/DV out' set to on. If you have your video card settings set to have the video output on, you will be able to see your computer screen on the camcorder.
You then just have to press the 2 record buttons on the camcorder, and it will capture whatever is on your computer screen to the mini-dv tape in the camera.

  5. Alright, well I didnt do live streaming to computer as I shot the video so I guess it was on the Memory Stick and I didnt know it, either way I got it from the camcorder to the computer through the analog USB cable. Ill pick me up a firewire cable (computer has pre-installed card) and ill transfer the video back to my DV tape. Ill put the movie on this forum as well for everyone to see. Thanks alot for the help, im not completley new to video making, but I am to editing and what not. Thanks again. 8)

  6. I don't understand how you got the video into your computer. There is no such thing as an 'analog USB' cable. If you did get the video from your memory stick, it would be of horrible quality (and only a few minutes long max), and in mpeg form, which is not an officially supported format for editing in Premiere... which isn't to say Premiere can't edit mpeg video, it's just a major pain.
Can you explain EXACTLY what you did to get the video into your computer?

The Sony's (at least my TRV240) come with a USB cable (no firewire cable) and a program that allows you to capture direct to your computer. No frills. I quickly got smart when several power program such as Adobe Premier wouldn't recognize it through the USB connection. I now capture with firewire cable through my Sound Blaster Audigy 2 sound card. Now all the programs can be used. And as you stated this includes output too. Fire wire is definately the way to go. I now why they go the USB route. It's easier for the standard PC consumer to use and theres no need to supply extra hardware. Typical of the industry. They make their money off the accessories.
