    Can anybody help with a small, but very annoying problem I have while trying to use Cinemacraft MPEG Encoder to convert a few AVI films I have to MPG, so I can shove them onto DVD

    I know I could use another converter or TMPGenc, which I will end up doing I think, but solving this "problem" will stop it bugging me as well

    When trying to convert certains AVI's, I get the same error message about the audio codec, I don't think its down to it not being available, but from reading a bit about this error on the MS developer site, it may be a problem with the actual encoder

    I get this error :

    acmstreamopen() failed: Error 512
    The wave format is 85

    Any suggestions as to what is causing this, and how to solve it, so CCE can convert the problem AVI's.

    Not a problem to TPMGenc, but CCE, and also Mainconcept Encoder as well

    I know I can extract the audio stream, using VirtualDub, and convert it using Mainconcept adding the stream back to the final output, longwinded one one program should be able to do it all

    Thanks in advance

    Okay, I'll give GoldWave a try, I used to use that ages ago, but the latest version is now upto v5.0 beta, so I'll see whats improved, but

    It still doesn't answer my question as to what is causing the error

    Also, as far as I can tell, might be mistaken, it won't be the first or last time ......... CCE cannot import an audio stream, it just take the main stream and if it has audio uses that, there isn't a way to add your own audio stream to the output stream
