    Both VCD and SVCD slideshows have the same maximum resolution PAL/NTSC 704x576/480.

    I guess VCD slideshow may be compatible on DVD standalone players but does a SVCD MPEG2 slideshow have any benefits?

    The SVCD mpeg2 compression is far superior to mpeg1, and svcd stills are allowed to have more KBs of data per image for the same resolution.
