    What you need:

Sample Programs are OS X, but similar OS 9 programs exist

    A DVD Ripper (0SeX, DVDBackup)
    An AC3->AIFF/WAV converter (mAC3Dec, bd4go)**
An MPEG-2 -> QT movie converter (Diva)
    QT Pro
    Demuxer* (bbDemux, Extractor)

*Depending on how you rip, or what software you use, you may need this
**Audio may not be AC3; if it is not, use an appropriate converter

    1. Rip the DVD

2*. If you do not have seperate audio/video streams you may need to demux them (Diva do not require this etc.)

    3. Convert the MPEG-2 video to DivX (in QT .mov container)

    4. Convert the AC3** audio to AIFF

    5. Add the audio to the video or vise versa (don't scale unless it doesn't come out perfect, in that case scale the video)

    6. Export using the DivX Image Codec with video passthrough checked (for best results use with the DivX MP3 codec)

I noticed there was a post about using the DivX Pro 5.05 for mac encoder, and I figured I might as well post this here.

For non-AC3 audio here are some solutions...

    Apparently mAC3dec can decode MPEG-Audio

PCM (cannot find a disk that uses PCM so if I ever reinstall iDVD I will try to use it as a test run)

This solution doesnt use the DivX Pro Encoder, but its only only OS X solution that worked for me on DVDs with PCM audio: 42. Most Warner Brothers music video type DVDs have PCM audio, even though it always says Dolby Digital audio on the box (those liars).

Thanks, I will look into some DVD's then.

Is there anyway I can detect PCM audio before ripping?
