hello, been making movies for months now, this is a first. When I open TMPGEnc to start encoding, and open up my original file to fill the video sourse it states "the movie avi",can not open or unsupported. I can put my wav file in no problem. Does anyone know why I can't open this file. Thanks for your time

I am not 100% sure, but you might want to check out the tools section and download avicodec or gspot to analyze the avi. When I have problems with avis it's usually because it is of some proprietary MS crap. If the codec used is from microsoft there are ways to get around restrictions..

also go to your settings then environmental settings and move the direct show filter to the top priority...holla

Have you changed your capture software or any of the settings? I've had this happen a couple of times with me and I recaptured and all was ok. I believe that I had changed the audio capture settings and this messed it up. I still got the wave file which was ok ....... but the avi, which would play ok in Windows Media Player, would not load in TMPGEnc. Try a recapture and check all the audio settings .......

how do I recapture. Also, if I downloaded avicodec how do I use it?
Thanks -
Chodaro,
Just recapture to avi the same way you did initially. I use VirtualDub and the highest settings and CD Audio quality. It may not be the answer but it might be worth a try."No freeman shall be debarred the use of arms." - THOMAS JEFFERSON .. 1776 -
ok this is what I did. I downloaded Jerry Maguire off kaza. I used virtualdub and that went well. When I went to encode it with tmpge, and tried to put in the video source it wouldn't let me. That' were the problem is. You have to put the original in the video sourse box. And that's what won't go in. My audio sourse Wav file goes in no problem. Could It just be a bad download? The thing is, is that I already downloaded this movie. After I put it on a disk, the sound didn't work on the second. After I already ereased the movie, I had to download it again. When I search there is always only one that comes up. So I was guessing it was the same one I downloaded before. I don't know what the hek is going on!
if understand would be greatful for a response.
thank you gritz and sircooks for your help so far! -
from what i understand, your source file may be bad, ive experienced this before........try another avi or something else, because what usually happens especially with those kazaa files, is that they have the wrong file extension, hey!...try changing the file extension....other that that i have no more answers except for trying to reencode it using someother program, i dont mean encode it to vcd, i mean to like mpeg or avi using some other program....also...try demuxing it, thats seperating the vid from the audio, then converting the audio (.mpa) to a wav file, i usually use winamp (hope i dont get kicked for that)...but that usually works for me..holla back

thanks a lot for the response. I think I'm gonna re-download it again and then try it. Won't hurt not like i don't have the time. Under a tornado watch right now! Shit sucks!
thanks again

If redownloading doesn't help, install avicodec, then to use it right click on the file and select "AVI codec: detailed information", you will see the file in a dialogue box. highlight the file to get the information, which is displayed at the bottom of the box. Oh, and I had to take cover too here up in Omaha, NE cause of that Tornado warning. One of these days I tell ya...

I took your advise sircooks. My trial period was up! So I changed my priority and now it works.
Have another question?
Just upgrated to windows xp. Now for some reason I can't use vcd easy. It keeps asking me if I want windows to do something. When I go to use it, it does the same thing it did before but, when it is all done, and I take out the cd, there's nothing on it. Now I have enable cdrdao integration checked. Could that be the problem? Plus, I would love to learn how to make subtitles all that jazz that comes off a real cd. Can you do that with pc downloads?
Thanks for all the response!

O.k. when I open up vcdeasy, I set it up like I like it. I put a disk in and this is what it's telling me:
it's asking what do I want windows to do....open writable cd folder using windows explorer .... Burn with Nero which I never used just have it downloaded or.....take no action. I checked no action and still there is no movie showing on the disk!!
