  1. just read the tutorial and have got all of the basics down. Previously I was mpeg encoding w/my MatroxX100. It results in m2v for video and .wav for audio.
    1) for Matrox users, are the results of TMPGEnc that much better/worse/or about the same for mpeg encoding
    2) TMPGEnc is for video--what do I do about the audio side---does it spit out uncompressed .wav file just like my Matrox card--or is does that side need a whole diff program

for authoring I have been using DVDit and the results have been ok--but I'm always shooting for the best. thanks.

TMPGenc can do a better job of encoding that the matrox .. tmpgenc can encode the audio to mpeg audio but you may want a ac3 encoder also ..

  3. Personally, I really dislike DVDit!, but if you decide to use this program, then you should encode a short piece of video using TMPGEnc, import it into DVDit!, and then author a simple project and try to compile it. This is because DVDit! (particularly older versions) has a nasty habit of accepting TMPGEnc MPEG files and only rejecting them after you have authored your project, with the program failing to compile the job. If you do a mini project and successfully compile it then you know you are ok to do a full project using those TMPGEnc settings!

Only rejected because your MPEG is outside accepted DVD specs of the authoring program. Read the HELP files of DVDit! Maybe reinstall DVDit! too, as it can be corrupted. But goto Sonic's website for proper manual removal, as it won't work any other way. It's been a loyal program to me since 2001. Only "complaint" is lack of motion menus, but that's not needed anyway (you only look at the menu for a few seconds anyhow).

I like the Matrox software and the TMPGenc Plus software. You can have audio dumped as WAV or MP2 in TMPGenc.

Check out the VHS>DVD guide in my sig, as it has some info on TMPGenc and DVDIt! in it (ignore the capturing part if you have a Matrox and not ATI card).
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.

Respectfully, I beg to differ. I value the 'opinion' of Daikin Scenarist and Spruce Maestro far, FAR, higher than that of Sonic DVDit!, and my old TMPGEnc encodes used to import into both these venerable programs with no issues at all. Only DVDit! would accept them, allow me to spend hours authoring, and then puke them at the last hurdle, during compiling. I'm glad you have had good experiences with DVDit!, but I know from countless posts, on numerous forums, that I was far from alone in my bad experiences with DVDit! in this regard. Sonic have made efforts to solve this issue with versions after 2.2, but to be quite honest, I was so disgusted by that point in time that I moved onto greener pastures (ironically, SpruceUp was way better, despite the legal shenanigans over the program, between Spruce Tech' and Sonic at that time, which have been well-documented and needn't be discussed again here).

Each to their own. I respect your opinion, but my opinion is that neither TMPGEnc, or the settings I, and hundreds of others, used, were not to blame.

    Peace
