    hi,just installed the above oem drive along with ati radeon 9500pro..it is recognised on bootup and will play audio cds but causes pc to freeze on attempting to play dvds with either media player 9 or powerdvd...running winXP2400+,512mb ram,120gb hd...so performance shouldnt be an issue?Any ideas anyone?

    Sounds like driver to me. Possibly but I doubt the firmware ver.

    PIO vs DMA, maybe.
    Windows drivers, maybe.
    Not firmware.

    Delete device from SYSTEM in control panels.
    Restart.

    thx for replies...just uninstalled the pioneer and reinstalled my old toshiba sd-m1612...used to play dvds no prob but not now...what is goin on?? ...i have added a new cpu and hard drive this week and reinstalled windows xp which is all running smooth until this prob...whats dma versus pio??

  5. I've seen this lately, that some DVDs will not play on my 105. I am able to play all the DVDs via RealOne Player but not MS or WINDVD. I wonder if there is a SW conflict? Do you have RealOne Player installed???
    Cendyne/Pioneer 105 & 104 with a Dazzle* Hollywood DV-Bridge.

    thx gcutler but my old toshiba now no longer plays dvds when it used to with no probs using all of the aforementioned software thus there is some other explanation....help required here plz??

    as an update to this prob...my pioneer dvr-105 does indeed rip and burn exactly as it should..have to play the copies on my home dvd player...so there is some conflict/poss software..poss anything..im at a loss!...Heres a useful tool for those pioneer a05/dvr-105 users read about it here http://forum.firmware-flash.com/viewtopic.php?t=12883 but beware the fake http://forum.firmware-flash.com/viewtopic.php?t=13370 ....Now come on ppl...help me now!?

    after considering Ide solutions..Pio vs.Dma etc..problem solved...a straightorward software conflict between Powerdvd and WMP9..uninstalled then reinstalled Powerdvd et voila..Dvd Playback!...sometimes the best solutions are the most simple eh?..thx for replies
