  2. must use smartripper or decrypter to rip the DVD to your hard drive 1st, cuase these will take the copy guarded(dycrption) out of the VOB's. then you use soemthing like DVD2ONE, DVDxCOPY, DVDshrink, Instant copy 7 or infoedit tofinish your DVD so it can be burned.
You can only make a direct copy from DVD to DVD only if the DVD has no encryption on it, all store bought movies on DVD have encryption.

I know this is your feeble attempt at being clever, but you seemed to ignore the fact that thxkid responded with a polite answer FOUR hours before your sarcastic post. You claim that no one is helpful, then ignore the helpful replies tha we post.

Unless you expect people to respond to questions like this with full-length, detailed guides on how to copy a DVD. In which case, you're insane. Thxkid just gave devil the information s/he needs to find out the answer s/he is looking for. A thimbleful of research will present a garden of answers to Devilprof's question.

    Devilsprofessor:
Sorry for the hijack. Your type of question elicits a variety of responses, and Renegade6 was trying to take a shot at the members of this forum because of anonther thread topic earlier today.

What you ask is covered in length throughout this site. The How-To guides really are very helpful, and many people get frustrated because the answer you seek is plainly written out under "How To" -> "DVD RIP" (You will notice that right under DVD RIP it says "DVD-Video to...DVD"). The direct link is https://www.videohelp.com/dvdripping.

While new members are certainly encouraged to ask questions and seek advice, your queston illustrates the fact that you have done such little research on this topic that you are unaware that DVD have anti-copying mechanisms built into them. New members are asked to do some basic research before posting a question, and you may find yourself th target of "flaming" because it is obvious that you did not.

It is not my intent to belittle you, and I hope that my direct link to the DVD RIP section helps you. But you will find it more difficult to receive help if you do not show that you have at least tried a minimum of research on your own. The entire dvdrhelp site is here to guide you, not just this forum.

  5. Well for everyones info I have done nothing but research this whole DVD thing. Yes i have read about ripping BUT i was curious to know if there was a PATCH for the DVD WRITER to over look the copywrite on my DVD.
I'd thank you to read things properly next time as I was not asking anything about ripping. It was just a general "I wonder" as nearly everything is possible with a PC these days.
ThxKid, thank you for a polite repsonse

First of all: Obviously, you have not done your research if you think you can just pop a commercial DVD into your computer and copy it with Nero.

Second: I did read your question properly. Did you even bother to go to the link I posted? It briefly explained copyright (not "copywrite," smart guy) protection and the size issues that would keep you from directly copying your commercial DVD to a DVD-R. It also has links to guides that explain how to overcome both of these problems. Here, I will paste a portion of that page here for you:

You can NOT just copy a DVD to a recordable DVD like copy a CD Audio because most DVDs are both encrypted and many won't fit on a DVD±R/W cause there are only 4.38 GB recordable DVD±R/Ws(called single layer DVD-5) while many newer DVD-Videos are on 8 GB DVDs(called dual layer DVD-9). No DVD Writer supports the dual layer DVD-9 format and there are no plans for any such writers either (a DVD-9 is basicly two pressed plastic DVD-5s pressed together, they are not burned).

Methods to copy a DVD to recordable DVD±R/W:

If the source DVD-Video is under 4.38 GB(called single layer DVD-5) you can pretty easy rip and copy it to one recordable DVD±R/W. No video quality loss and you will keep all the extra materials such as menus and trailers.
Recommended guide: DVD-5 to one recordable DVD using DVDDecrypter.

If the source DVD-Video is over 4.38 GB(called dual layer DVD-9) you can reconvert it or/and remove extra material so it fits on one recordable DVD±R/W. You may lose some video quality and some extra materials.
Recommended guide: DVD-9 to one recordable DVD.

If the source DVD-Video is over 4.38 GB(called dual layer DVD-9) you can rip it and copy it to two recordable DVD±R/Ws. No video quality loss and you will keep all the extra materialss.
Recommended guide: Use DVDXCopy to copy to two recordable DVDs.

The subject of your thread is "Backing up a copywrite [sic] DVD" and you asked how to get around the copy protection so you can backup your movies. I very politely pointed you in the right direction and gave some advice of my own.

Now you are simply backpeddling to cover up for the fact that the answer was right under your nose. If thxkid's advice was so polite and helpful, then he was giving the same answer as me. Heck, I even posted a direct link to the guides that fleshed out the information thxkid gave you.

Maybe you should read things properly next time.

Hmmmm ..... getting defensive is pretty revealing ......... If you expect to learn, try being open to a little critisism. Most of us don't get it right the first time and appreciate each bit of advice, even admonishment. Attacking the messenger certainly shows shows some insecurity ........
