I just installed my ADVC-50 analog to DV convertor. When I first brought up Ulead DVD Workshop after installation, the picture from my VCR was appearing in the preview capture window. Now, everytime I bring up a capture program, I get a blank screen. I've tried Scenalyzer, DVD Workshop, Studio 8, all give me the black preview screen. For capture device, I select DV camcorder. My computer's device manager shows the ADVC-50 and IEEE firewire card to be working normally. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

I use Scenealyzer for my capturing with this card so I can only speak for this one. But I have had the same problem before.
Make sure that the Input button is selected under the Preview window, and the the camera controls (just under the input button) is set to Play. You should then have the preview window show video input.
The mistake that I made before was that I had the camera control set to record thinking that I was recording. You just have to remember that the left side of the screen is the external device control and the right side is the capture side.
Hope that helps. -
Hi,
If you're using Pinnacle Studio 8, remember to click on capture preview in your capture setting.
If this does not help, I think your VGA card doesn't support overlay (2ndary buffer). Before that, try to download the generic vga card driver first. If fails, replace your VGA card with those that support 2ndary buffer.
Rgds.
