  1. I have Mpeg2 files - I just want to record them.
Yet it seems like every DVD authoring tool will try to re-encode them. Most don't recognize 352x240 Mpeg2.

So far ULEAD DVD studio is the only one that may decide that it does not need to reincode (if it feels like it - not always). But then it forces all movies to be the same resolution.

What other tools do not force re-encode step? (I still want to add menus and create VOBs with them...)

  2. Ulead's DVD Workshop product will not re-encode if you buy the AC-3 Version:

Except... as you point... the program does require all of the movies be of the same resolution.

  3. DVD Maestro accepts 352x240 MPEG2. However, IIRC the DVD standard calls for MPEG1 video at 352x240 (MPEG2 for 352x480 or 720x480) so that could be why your other authoring programs have problems.

If all you want is the 'basic movie' on a DVDR, try IFOEdit.

DVDlab. It's currently in pre-release. Check out the forums at www.mediachance.com for a copy of the pre-release. The update is a working program, its a cut down with help, backgrounds, templetes etc missing.

I have been testing the pre-release for weeks now. Its the best program I have tried. I will be buying it when its released.

  5. Are you sure that 352x240 is MPEG1? Is it VCD resolution?

I tired IFOEdit and it seems to crush instantly as soon as I add files to DVD authoring. Is that the NTSC bug?

  6. I just checked - TMPGEnc has DVD Mpeg2 352x240 and VCD 352x240 MPEG1

But I did see that 352x240 should be MPEG1. So is it TMPGEnc bug?
