I am hosting my own wepbages and I can not access them with an outside computer when XP's firewall is on. It is blocking port 80 and not letting any outside computer connect. If I turn off the firewall no probs. I cant figure out how to configure xp's firewall. I went through the properties of my network connection and cant find it. I'm not behind a router or anything. Maybe I should just get zonealarm instead, I dunno? Any help appreciated.

  2. AFAIK, the built in XP firewall will not let you configure it to allow access from the internet. In fact the whole point of it is that it will not accept incoming connections on any port that does not have an existing outgoing connection to match it. So to answer your question, yes, another firewal product, like Zone Alarm, is what you need.

Actually, I think that you'll need to buy ZoneAlarm Pro. It allows you to pick individual ports to let through.

  4. If you are serious then get a router between you and the internet, then use zonealarm Pro. The XP built-in firewall is not very good. I will not say how but it has problems.
