Great!
I wrote that procedure a long time ago back when dvd2one would export in just individual video_ts and audio_ts folders
Most of the updates have make it as simple as you have found
Glad to see its something you enjoy!

hi proper newbie here
i have just dowloaded mac the ripper and toast, to back-up my DVD's. the film i wanted to back up is 7gb. i followed the instructions for the ripper which all went ok. then these instructions for toast. however when i put in my 4.7gb blank disk in and press burn this comes up:
THERE'S NOT ENOUGH FREE SPACE ON THIS DISC: 2928656 SECTORS (5.59 GB) ARE NEEDED, 2298496 SECTORS (4.38 GB) ARE AVAILABLE
i thought toast was meant to compress it, it's really frustrating me and i desperate to sort it out, can anyone help?
thanks
Larry
p.s. i tried it on another dvd that was 4gb it worked fine -
you did not compress the disc it says the source is 5.59 gigs and you can only burn 4.38 to that disc
you need dvd2one or some other means of compressing that film
toast does not compress
Popcorn is roxio's compressor.
its not possible to dry it on another dvd unless you lucked out and that dvd was less than 4.3 gigs -
Hi I wonder if you can give me a few pointers.
I have downloaded my DVD onto my mac desktop using mac the ripper.
It created two folders one AUDIO_TS and the other VIDEO_TS.
I would now like to burn these onto a DVD that would be playable in my DVD player.
I have toast titanium 5.2.1. Or the burn folder option on my mac desktop or iDVD. Are any of these programs or utilities going to be suitable.
Sorry if this is in the wrong place, but seemed the most relevant just now.
Cheers Alison. -
In Toast 5, if I remember correctly, select the DVD option in the Other tab. Then drop the parent folder containing AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS foldes to the main window. Burn.

Yea, perhaps I should update this... i just figured everyone knows how to use it now that it is so bloody simple.

Just got a Mac and am looking forward to burning movies using all your helpful advice. Thanks!

hahah, Now that we are running Toast 8.x maybe i should update this page for the newbies still coming in.
For those with Toast 8 its the same thing, just some changes
Ripping: Mac The Ripper
Compressing: (i still use DVD2ONE, but there are others now avaliable)
Burning: Toast 8 using the same setup as before, they have just added extra features and made the appearance difference with v8 -
Hi there, I have been attempting to burn a dvd from Video TS & Audio TS in the DVD (UDF) option, so far I have tried both TT8 & TT7 to try and get it to work, now don't get me wrong It 'has' worked about one in 8 dvd-rs work.
problems is that more often that not I get this error
It's a little irritating - Instead of dropping the video_ts folder and audio ts should I just drop in an ISO/
I'm really not having much luck and if you could shed some light on this I would appreciate it
P.s. I get this error in both TT8 & TT7
Edit: wrong link. -
'Medium error' is often: your drive telling Toast that it doesn't like the disc (for writing). Maybe the wrong speed certification, maybe the wrong brand.

Even if it has worked before? Should I be using DVD-R or DVD+R?
-
To me thats a branding issue especially if your success rate is 1 our of 8. what brand of discs are you using?
-
what happens if just the movie is over 4.37gb? i am trying to burn one right now to a disc and its 4.95. any way to shrink it down?
thx

.... nm... was apparently looking at an old page. missed the dvd2one step. does dvd2one allow you to rip the complete movie and still fit it on one disc? anyone know of a good free program similar to dvd2one? -
hi,
i followed the instructions below, but the movie file too large, so i can't burn it to the dvd - the disk space is only 4.7GB. What do I do? Please help.
Alternatively, you can also do this
1. Open Toast, Click on DATA, then DVD-ROM (UDF)
2. Click NEW DISC (name this as the dvd should be named)
3. Click ADD and name the folder AUDIO_TS
4. Drag your VIDEO_TS to the toast window -
I read with interest this entry. I have many old dvds that i want to preserve.
I can copy almost any DVD, but when copying, many features such as subtitles, popup menu, scene selections, etc do not copy. Does your method preserve all the extras? If not, can you suggest how I might make copies that do.
I am using a Mac with OS X and I have Toast 10.
Thanks.
