  1. Hi all,
I have a really weird problem and I can not seem to get it right. Maybe this is a dumb question but at this point, I do not care if somebody calls me dumb as long as they can help me.

    Ok, here is the deal.
I can not capture any video with the Canopus...Sound yes...video no.

Here is the hardware/Software that I have..
Like I said, I have a Canopus 100. I am also trying to use Adobe Premiere 6.5.
My system processor is an AMD 1700 and I am running XP pro.
    I have 512MB ram DDR2700.
In addition, I have an 80gb hard drive that is 7200 rpm.
While I am certain that my hardware is not the trouble, somebody always ask that so I thought that I would get it out of the way.

Now you might be asking how I am certain....well the system worked before I wiped the hard drive. When I reinstalled the system however, I can not view a preview of the video that I am capturing. When I play the avi file that I create, it also has no video.
Yes, I have made sure that the blocks in Adobe are checked for video viewing...nothing.
I am certain that I am getting video to the PC because when I go down and click on the Canopus in my files, I see the video playing fine.
I also tried Ulead and I tried Microsoft Movie maker.
In both of these, I see the video "UNTIL", I hit record and the screen goes blank.
    I have tried everything...HELP....

    Thanks

  2. Well as luck would have it, I can answer my own question.
Maybe this will help the next person who runs into this problem.
As it turns out, there was one difference that I had not thought about when I reinstalled my computer system.
I am using a Raedon 7500 video card and it has TV out.
When I reloaded the system, I installed the video card software and it gives me an option of having both the TV and the monitor screens connected and active at the same time.
I did not have both connected before.
What I would do before is restart my system and, if I wanted the TV out, have it connected at re-start. If wanted the monitor, that TV cable would be disc at re-start.
This time however I had opted for multiple outs at once and connected both at the same time.
It turns out that when I disconnect the TV out cable( and change the card software from multiple monitors to a single monitor), the trouble goes away.
So I guess Adobe Premiere does not like multiple monitors when capturing.

But, since nobody was able to answer this one, I thought that I would try another question....

In Adobe Premiere 6.5.., when I capture, I am using about 10GB per hour.
Not a problem EXCEPT, I can not seem to get my hard drive back.

    What I mean is this...
When I capture video with my ADVC 100 and Adobe Premiere 6.5, I save that captured DV file. I then make the SVCD.
I then delete the captured 10+GB DV file from the folder.
Even when I delete the DV file after being finished however, I am still 10GB down on my hard drive.
You can imagine how quickly my hard drive is dissapearing at 10gb at a time.
At this rate and my hard drive can not capture more than 1 camcorder tape.
I looked all over the hard drive and I can not find these phantom 10GB files.
Where did my hard drive go?
How do I get it back?

    Thanks

  3. don't know fi this is the answer ur looking for but try checking the recycle bin, if u delete something it doesn't necessarily delete it. if not that, just search for all files in excess of 9.9 gb

  4. Go to "My Computer", Right click on your capture drive, and select "disc cleanup". I have the same problem. When I finish with a movie, I do the disc cleanup, then move on to the next project. Annoying, yes, but quick and simple.

  5. Those are good ideas but I had tried them both already.

I know that something is not actually deleted unless you delete if from the trash can. Besides, since you set the size of the trash can, it can not be responsible for over 50gb of my hard drive right now. (It is set for about 4GB)

And I thought disk cleanup was the answer too but that did not see the files or do anything to help.

I have also looked for any files that might be over 10GB. That is part of the weird part.
I click on the properties of my C: drive and it shows almost 50GB tied up in these files ( 4 files at 10+ GB each) . But when I search for anything over 10GB .....or......click on any of the sub-files under C: and they do not show more than about 2 GB a file. (About 8GB total on the hard-drive if you are thinking that I just have a lot of 2 GB files).

It is almost like, other than the DV file that Adobe Primere 6.5 saved in my designated folder when I capture movies, there is some hidden file that is also saved. It will not delete and is not visible.

I would hate to think that I have to format my hard drive every time I capture a camcorder tape.

Any more ideas would be really appreciated.

    Thanks

  7. I'm also using XP Pro. I have to go to "disc cleanup" on a regular basis. When I do, it may show 3.1 Gig in my trash, but when cleaned up free's up 10 sometimes 15 Gigs. Try a defrag to see if you have an unusualy large amount of "Unmovable" blocks. Your program may be "Cacheing" on that hard drive, then not releasing that area when you're finished.

  8. Don;t know if this will help, but you could try using search. Every so noftern I have to do this to make sure there aren;t loads of large temp files on my disk! Got to Search, don;t enter a file name, just searchj through all files and folders and where is says what size is it, enter at least 100000 (100 MB), then under more advcnaded options make sure search hidden folers and also system folder are both checked! Then just delete the files you don;t want!

i remember people having this problem with Service pack 1 on XP (i think!) don't know if there was any fix though. i vaguely remember something about using the command prompt to delete the files, but i may be mistaken. i forget, is "disc clean up" the XP version on scandisc? if it isn't, run scan disc. also, try deleting the avi files from withing premiere. if it is premiere hiding them away, then it will know to delete them.
