I have an avi file with AC3 audio, and i'm having trouble getting the audio in sync. Here's what I did:
-extracted AC3 file using virtualdub
-converted AC3 file to wav using headAC3he and resampled to 44.1kHz
-added subtitles with virtualdub and frameserved to tmpgenc
-converted to svcd with tmpgenc
I've read through as many threads as I possibly could, and nothing seems to help. The video file doesn't have any bad frames, and the wav file is the same length as the video file. The video is ahead of the audio, and the gap is larger at the beginning. Also, I've never converted anything with AC3 audio or subtitles before, so I'm not sure where the problem might be. The subtitles are in sync, so I don't think it had anything to do with frameserving. Everything else I've made works perfectly.
Any suggestions?

here's what i always do, and it hasn't failed yet:
load .avi into VirtDub, direct stream copy, save the .wav to temp dir
rename the .wav to .ac3, i.e. movieaudio.wav to movieaudio.ac3
load the .ac3 into Headache, convert to PCM .wav
load the original .avi and the converted PCM .wav into TMPGEnc
I always use this template as well:

I dunno if that makes a difference or not,......good luck anyways -
Personally, I use Goldwave to extract AC3 sound. Load the avi then save, it's easy to use. Try that and see if it helps.
Otherwise, an audio gap right from the start can be corrected with the Audio Delay function in TMPGEnc. It's found in the Source Range window. The numbers entered are in milliseconds (.001 sec.) and positive numbers start the audio sooner, negative later. Do a few short test encodes to get it right.
If the audio gets corrected at the start but still gets gradually out of sync later in the film, then the audio needs to be shrunk or stretched to fit the video. Goldwave can do that with the Time Warp function
Good luck.8)

It makes the audio easier on tmpgenc

Okay, I used GoldWave to extract the wav this time, and the mpg had the same unsyncness as before. I check just the wav, and it IS in sync with the movie, so I'm guessing it has something to do with the frameserving, since it's the only other thing I'm doing differently.

dont frameserve, just try it regularly through tmpgenc, then burn it slow...holla

But I'm frameserving to add the subtitles. If not frameserving, how else should I do it?
