Everytime i've watched an 2.35:1 Anamorphic movie on my computer with PowerDVD, theres always 2 extra black bars on top and bottom, If you turn the brightness of the monitor, you'll see theres 2 extra black lines. I think the problem is that PowerDVD thinks that my monitor is 16:9, but my monitor is really 4:3. maybe that's what casuse the problem. Anyone know how i can fix this problem?

A 2.35 anamorphic dvd has black borders. When playing on your computer monitor(4:3) you will get like two black borders, one from powerdvd and one from the dvd source.

  3. PowerDVD is fine.
What you see is how it is recorded. Bars and all.

A 2.3 aspect has less lines of vertical detail than 1.8 on DVD.
Because of this I have wondered why people prefer anamorphic.

  4. anything aspect ratio that is 16:9 or above can be released in anamorphic. 1.85 and 2.35 both so i dont know why you were dissing anamorphic. Anamorphic actually has a higher vertical resolution than if it were non anamorphic (letterboxed).

the only difference between the two is that 2.35 will have bigger black bars than 1.85

No matter how I read the first few posts, I cannot see how they are "dissing" anything.
The glass is neither half-full, nor half-empty.
It is simply twice as big as it needs to be.

That's really messed up. There's already 2 black line from the 2.35:1 movie itself already, and PowerDVD adds another 2 black line to it? No wonder the movie look so weird.

**** it...i'm starting to dislike this program, the timing is not right, the subtitles are not in the right place. Anyone know anyother good DVD program besides this garbage?

it adds the borders so the aspect ratio will look right. if it didn't do that, everything would be stretched out and you would be on here complaining about how powerdvd is stupid because it stretches everything out of proportion.

it sounds like you don't know what you're doing. and by reading your other posts, it looks like i'm right. if i talk to my mouse and tell it to kill my neighbor and it doesn't do it, does that mean its a worthless piece of crap and i should go out and look for one that will?

On my player or TV I can make it not have the bars however if I set the aspect ratio to normal it of course will have the bars but the image is correct. I don't think there is anything wrong with the PowerDVD program and I get the same bars if I play a DVD that is 2.35:1.
