  1. Ive downloaded loads of dvd ripped films off kazza, Direct connect etc and they are all in avi format..

However I want to convert them into mpeg format so I can burn them to a normal cd-r (700mb) disk and watch them on my dvd player.

Whats the best audio compressor software to enable me to do this as I don’t really want to put the films onto two cd-r’s

Or is there any other way to get round this

    Cheers

Don't try to pu them on one cd, you will get VERY bad quality. Sacrifice 2 cd's intead, it's worth it.

you can get 80 minutes of (low) quality VCD onto 1 disk. You can try xSVCD or xVCD and maybe get 2 hours of so-so quality. Since you are converting from 1 CD DivX/XviD, don't expect great results (your source is generally overcompressed).

SVCD's (higher quality) are typically 45 minutes or so per CDR. Most good DVD rips are 2-4 CDR's.

You don't have to split them, you have to CONVERT them to compliant mpeg1's or mpeg2's. There's lots of guides one click away, right over there <-<-<- on the left hand column.
