  1. I just bought this card yesterday and so far like the quality. I just have a few issues. First, I have Windows XP and after installing the drivers for the remote, the program brings up an error each time it starts, so the remote doesn't work. Any ideas?

Also, I used to use VirtualDub for capturing, but couldn't seem to get that to work. Does anybody have any ideas about either of these two issues with the ASUS card? Thanks for those who reply.

Hi Jonny: just wondering if you've gotten vdub to work w/ your asus card. I have the same card. I've been tinkering w/ captures on vdub...it seems to work for me, except I can't get any bigger than ___X240 resolution, so I think I'm gonna pitch this and go on to some other capture program. I've read tons of these forum pages about people who've had the same problem w/ the resolution (I want to cap at 640X480) and the drivers to fix this problem scare me...some w/ Win2K have had problems.

What can't you get to "work" on Vdub?

  3. I'm having the same problem with my Asus TV Tuner (TV880). Using VirtualDub and AVI_IO I can only capture at NNNx240. The problem seems to be that the drivers are WDM drivers and these programs only support VFW drivers. There is a VFW for WDM wrapper available but I can't get it to work on XP with this card. I know someone who got it to work on Win2K with an ATI card, but I don't know if that's because of Win2K or because the ATI card has a different chipset than the Asus. There are also some 3rd party VFW drivers, but as far as I can tell, they don't work with the Conexant chipset on the Asus.

There are other capture programs that work with WDM directly. I've been testing iuVCR and VirtualVCR (There are links to both of these in the tools section). I tried iuVCR but it won't go higher than 640x480 and I want to capture at 720x480. Right now I'm testing VirtualVCR at 720x480 and I'll see how it goes.

I tried PowerVCR, that came with the card, but it will only capture to an MPEG-1 or MPEG-2. I want to capture to an AVI and run it through TMPGEnc.

Wait a minute, I've used the PowerVCR that came w/ the asus card too and I've gotten it to capture directly to avi, not just mpeg1 or mpeg2. And there are even 3 different levels I see in the dialogue box for avi: low, medium, and high quality.

So, just wanted to clarify that point.

Meanwhile, I think I'll tinker w/ iu and virtual VCR too, to see if I can get any better quality than the PowerVCR in avi format.

By the way, my newbie brain hasn't really gotten the lowdown on just what TMPGEnc can really do to enhance the avi after capture...in lay terms, that is. Like, does it just do a recompression for SCVD Mpeg2 format? or what? Guess I've got more reading to do.

  5. I cannot get VirtualDub to work above 320X240.

As far capturing to AVI, PowerDirector, which is part of the package that came with Asus TV Tuner, seems to capture even to high res AVI.
