Now this should be interesting challenge.....about 2 years ago I bought 2 DVD movies from an reputable online video store...both were Hong-Kong type movies (both are region-free). Now when I looked on the back of the package the label said the runtime which was 2 hours and that it was recorded in mono sound. Quite odd isnt it? Both are good movies btw, but i find it strange that they both were recorded in mono sound, and they were released since 1992. What would be the best way to convert the audio from the original DVD into the Dolby Digital sound? Plus since both the DVD's doesnt have any form of copy protection after checking it with DVDeCrypter, getting the audio and video info should be a breeze. Im not sure if the studios in Hong Kong or Asia copy protect their movies or not. Redoing a movie that was originally done in mono is tricky, but since the original language of the movie is in Cantonese I will need to convert to the English dub track (which is on the DVD as well) to understand the movie...lol.

Anyone up for any ideas on how to approach this challenge?

Hmm pretty interesting thought.....i guess with overseas stuff you can never tell. I know you can run mono as a mixed stereo signal, so anything is possible....though when i played the movie it sounded great. I definitely don't doubt ya there akronman.
