convert Avsenq03 to play on dvd?

I have got a film which I play on my pc ok, the format is Avseq03.dat I put it in Nero used the wizard to convert it picked video 1 came up with cd1/ext/mpegav/segment/vcd/ I dragged the file over into the bottom part of Nero put a disk in and selected burn it came up with re-encde vid file which I did and started to burn it finished ok took it out would not play on p.c. or d.v.d. player can anyone please help or put me right to where I am going wrong I have used 4 disks up to now I am using (White Label) 80mins disks by prodisc, which I use for MP3s I am burning on AOPEN CRW1232 rewrite thanks for any addvice or help (maurice)

Look in the CONVERT section at left to convert the DAT to a MPEG then use a (S)VCD authoring program to burn the MPEG as a new (S)VCD. Make sure you know which type of video you have VCD or SVCD.
