  1. Hi all, thought I had this stuff figured out, but alas I have an Xvid/OGM file which plays no problem, I want to put it into Vdubmod to extract the audio as a wav file before converting as I would with any other avi file but when I load it into Vdubmod I get "Couldn't locate decompressor for format XVID (unknown). Virtual dub requires a video for windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. Direct show codecs such as those used by windows media player are not suitable" ......is there a plug-in I need, a setting I need to change? All suggestions and solutions greatly appreciated.

  2. that error indicates you do not have the correct codec loaded. Have u run it thro' GSpot first?

  3. Yes I did, came through clean, all codecs needed are installed, no errors reported, very odd.

  4. Try uninstalling the codec, downloading a fresh one and installing this.

  5. All you need is the codec for Xvid. So just download it and install it. Virtualdub will then recognize the Xvid format. Its in the tools>codec section of the site by the way.

  6. Hi All
I am having the exact same problem, and as bebopdeluxe did I ran gspot and had the same results, showing that all codecs needed are installed. It seems very odd as in the past I have downloaded and encoded 50 or 60 movies with no problems at all. I recently had a system crash and had to reinstall all my programs, so this may have something to do with it. If I manage to figure this out, I will post how I did it. Oh and Enigma2U_20 if you read all the posts, you would have seen that bebopdeluxe did check to see if he had the proper codecs, apparently he did and is still having the same problem. If anybody else figures this out please post the solution. Many thanks. 8)

GSpot will tell you that the codec is installed, but it is really using FFDSHow to render. Go into the FFDShow configuration and tell it not to render XviD. This will force the codec to be used instead. I don't have it installed on this machine, so I'm workign from memory.

Try cheating your system into thinking that it's a DivX by using the fourcc changer, and change XVID to DIVX. The DivX codec seems flexible enough to decode XviD as well. (Both XviD and DivX being falvors if mpeg4)

  9. Hi Again All
Well I said I would post when I figured out my problem, and I have. It was so simple I am almost embarrassed to say. All I did was re-download the nemo codec pack and reinstalled it making sure to check the XVID box. Now both Vdub and TEMPGnc recognize the movies and codec. Like I said, a very simple fix, but I was thrown off by gspot saying I had the proper codec. Hope this helps.

Ouch! The dreaded Nimo pack! Breaks more than it makes. Keep your fingers crossed that what used to work still will. Stay clear of Nimo, and install just the codecs you need - no more, no less!
