I do my capturing on an external freecom hard disc with a firewire interface. The hard disc in this kit is a plain, of the shelf (maxtor), hard disc and runs on 5400 rpm
I never experienced any dropped frames so I dare to declare that 5400 rpm is more than sufficient for capturing.
