  1. Hi guys,

First of all, this has to be the best site online for this stuff. You guys do an amazing job!!!

I'm relatively new to the game. My typical cap consists of music videos, performances, and interviews.

I am using VirtualDub and TMPGenc to encode my videos. I also use GoldWave for the audio. My typical routine is:

    1.) Cap video using VirtualDub
2.) Convert to MPEG2 using TMPGenc.
3.) Edit audio using Goldwave (I do a sound card grab because my VCR only has one audio out -- so I end up with audio in one channel only). Here I copy the channel and add it to the second. Afterwards, I save it as MP3.
4.) Use TMPGenc to run the video again and replace the audio with the MP3.

Is there an easier way? Quality is very important to me. I typically have appx. 100MB files for music videos.

Also, lately, TMPGenc won't accept the MPEG2 when I try to rerun it. I read the thread about reinstalling PowerDVD so I'll try that. Hopefully, it'll solve that problem.

Thanks for any help suggestions you can provide.

Cannot help you with the speed of your encoding, but it sounds like your TMPGEnc freeware ware version's MPEG-2 function has expired. Help-->About and see if the version expired message is visible.
    Hello.

  3. Thanks for the suggestion. I have since reinstalled PowerDVD, the PowerDVD XP patch, and TMPGenc. TMPGenc's "about" screen says that I have 26 days left for MPEG2.

It's still not working. Any other ideas?

    Thanks again.

You may want to consider using Virtual Dub to frameserve to TMPGEnc. It could save you some time, also what happens exactly when you try to convert to MPEG-2 using TMPGEnc?
    Hello.

  5. The first time I convert from AVI to MPEG2, everything works great. But when I try to run it again to replace the audio, it won't accept the file -- It just ignores it -- no error messages or anything.

  6. I failed to mention that I purchased PicVideo a while back. Will that not fill that problem if that's what it is?

Since my last posting, I've gone back and installed the trial of the TMPGenc Plus and it won't accept the files either. They play fine though so I wouldn't think there are file issues. I'm so confused.

    Thanks again.
