  1. Isn't a video that is a mpeg2 format already te correct format for DVD burning or is it just a comparable quality of DVD. Reason I ask is that it seems that it takes so long to convert when trying to author, which I am not having luck with..

a dvd can be mpeg2 (it ussually is) ..

a mpeg2 can be almost any resolution and bitrate but for the mpeg2 to GO ON a dvd it must conform t the dvd specs which are a LOT tighter than the mpeg2 specs ..

  3. Take a look here https://www.videohelp.com/dvd (scroll down a bit). It will tell you which mpeg-2 parmeters need to be within what ranges to be DVD compliant.

look if its an mpeg 2 there are several complient values
    Compliant-352*480, 720*480, or 352*576(pal) 720*576(pal)
    non-Compliant- 480*480, 352*240,

oh and LanEvo7 to answer your question if your using a DVD-RW you can burn dvd compliant VCDS which are mpeg 1 but you have to change the audio to 48000 instead of 44.1 and im not sure about a header, but i dont have a dvd writer yet. but it would be easier if you just made CVDS my favorite for now till i get my DVD BURNER .
