  1. Hey everyone, question for you.

I recently purchased a new Dell computer with a ATI AIW 9000 Pro and have been capturing video to burn onto DVD.

I've been playing with the settings and whatnot to see what looks the best as a finished product and how much space I can get on each DVD, and I'm running into a problem.

I've been using Sonic MyDVD which came with my Dell computer, and I like it because of the menu's it creates, but I'm having a problem with my file.

I captured a 3.96 GB file from television (about 3.5 hours) but when I put it into Sonic MyDVD it says it doesn't fit on my 4.7 GB DVD. I know a DVD only has space for about 4.3 GB but Sonic MyDVD forces me to cut down about an hours worth of video (down to about 2.5 hours) before it tells me I have enough room.

This is DVD ready MPEG 2 file of 3.9 GB. Why doesn't it fit on a 4.7 GB disc? Do I really need to cut almost 30% of it in order to get it to fit? What am I missing/not understanding?

Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it.

    -Scott

Sonic MyDVD, which also came with my DRU-500a, converts all audio to uncompressed PCM which takes up significantly more space than the MPEG layer 2 audio. Other authoring packages don't ... this is why I baged Sonic MyDVD for Ulead DVD Movie Factory and Dazzle DVD Complete.

Yes I agree and I also deleted the program from my drive and installed NeoDVD Plus which compresses the audio to Dolby digital or AC3. Also the version of Sonic MyDVD that came with my Sony burner was borked in that the burn button was always grayed out which of course made the program useless.
