Excuse me for such a newbie question but I can't seem to find an answer on this site.
I would like to capture video mostly to transfer video tapes and Tivo recordings onto disc. Right now my plans are to copy onto VCD's but I plan on purchasing a DVD burner shortly. Also, I'd like to watch TV while I'm playing on the computer. As a result, I hope to be able to hook up a VCR permanently to the computer and, occasionally, move my Tivo over to my computer when I want to copy to digital media.
From what I can tell, the Canopus capture device linked thru firewire gets the most raves on this site. If I hooked up a VCR to this device, can I watch TV on the computer using the VCR as a tuner? How well does this work? What other options would you advise?
thanks,
Mike (Da Bears)

Thanks for the post. Will the ATI capture as well as the canopus advc 100? Any synch issues?
To my question, can I watch TV thru the Canopus without tying up the hard drive on my computer? I'm concerned that the DV files are so large.
thanks,
Mike
