  1. Hello all,

I recently downloaded VirtualVCR v2.6.9.2652. However, I can't get any sound when caputring footage from my DV box (DAC-100). I am able to use Premiere (and various other tools) and get sound but not with this tool. I would like to use this program because it is simple and the capture timer works properly with my DAC-100 box. I get no sound when capturing or previewing the footage.

Here is what I have tried:
    * Make sure no other program is using sound
    * Disable all non-relevant programs
    * Able to capture the same footage in Premiere with sound

Any ideas? I am running XP/SP1 (AMD 2600+, Asux A7N8X board, 1GB RAM).

    Thanks...

The nice thing about VirtualVCR is that it gives you lots of control....

.... but that also means lots of settings.

Check in Settings under the Audio tab and make sure your input is configured for the correct device (correct sound card, line in or mic in, etc.)

other than that, not sure. can you hear the source you're trying to capture?

  3. housepig,

Thanks for the reply. To answer your question, "no" - I cannot hear the sound when I am trying to capture. Also, I get no sound when I am not capturing (just previewing) the video.

    hmmmm.....

I would make sure that your Line In is not muted in the Windows Volume Control Panel.

I would check all the stupid stuff (the stuff I forget to check - are the cables working and plugged into the correct jacks, etc.)

Also, in VirtualVCR can you select "Stereo Mix" as opposed to "Line In" as your sound source? If so, and you get sound, make sure you turn off System Sounds (like minimizing windows, clicking, etc.) before you record.

IF you are still having problems, keep this thread going, I'll check my settings when I get off work - sometimes it's hard to diagnose when you can't look at the program...

  5. housepig,

Thanks for the help. I checked various audio settings in virtualVCR and the MS Windows audio stuff. Nothing is muted and I get normal Window's sound (i.e. error wav file) if I do something wrong in the application. Here is some more info:

    * If I enable "Show Audio Scope", the scope is flat-lined (no audio coming in)
    * If I open the same clip in any other video editing package, I get normal sound
    * I have tried every sound option availabe under the "Audio" tab - still nothing
    * I have enabled "Resample Audio" and "Adjust Stream Output" under the AV Sync tabs - still nothing.

My audio card is built on my motherboard (A7N8X mainboard with Invidia NForce Audio chipset). Perhaps virtualVCR does not like my soundcard, eh?

you've got me stumped... if you can capture with sound with other applications, I would say, last resort - re-download VirtualVCR and reinstall.

    other than that... dunno.

sorry I can't be more help.

  7. Just to emphasize what housepig suggested. "Check the line-in on the Windows volume control". For some unknown reason, when I go into VVCR sometimes, the damn thing gets muted. I have to go into the mixer while in VVCR and unmute it.

  8. hmmm... Now that is one thing I have not tried - starting VVCR <then> checking the windows mixer settings. Normally, I just set them prior to running the program. Let me try this setting once my current capturing process is done. I will let you know.

    Thanks!

  9. I re-installed VVCR the started it - still no sound. Next, I went into the Windows sound configuration (while VVR was running) and made sure nothing was muted (all channels 100% volume).

Still no luck. Anyone have other suggestions?
