I run XP Home on an Acer Aspire 1.7Mhz with 1.5G of Ram. 2x40 GB HDD + 1x80 GB HDD. I use it for ripping and burning DVD's (backups of course) and some home dv's. The machine is very slow, far slower than I would expect. Media Player also has trouble with DVD encoded Mpeg2's and won't play video but does the sound.

Anybody got advise on how to make my machine a bit faster

It takes a long time to open files, even simple single page text files in word, opening directories in explorer takes a few seconds. An enquiry on the desktop for system information can take 10 - 15 seconds.

I fear all is not well in the little beastie.
