  1. I have a few files that I have downloaded that are 23.97 frames per second - NTSC film right.

If I plonk this into tmpgenc I can encode as MPEG 1 straight away. However if I want to encode it as a SVCD it is 25fps, how do I go about changing the source file ?, or can I simply chuck my film straight into MPEG 2 without doing anything.

SVCD supports PAL framerates (25 fps) and NTSC framerates (29.97fps or 23.97fps with 3:2 pulldown so played back at 29.97fps).

Encode to SVCD at 23.97fps with 3:2 pulldown

  3. So let me get this straight.

I can open up tmpgenc wizard put my 23.97 fps avi into the SVCD ntsc film template and then sellect 3:2 pull down and everything will be hunky dory ?

  4. The TmpGenc SVCD (NTSC film) template should have the correct 3:2 pulldown settings already.

You can set it to 23.976... choose inverse telecine (3:2 pulldown, whatever), then hit Do Not Convert FrameRate, go back to the first tab and switch it to 25fps (do that *LAST* as TMPG loves to play with the framerate without asking), and set it to your PAL SVCD resolution (352, 480, 528 whatever by 576). You'll then get a 25fps SVCD pic out, hopefully with proper deinterlacing so that it's resized without funny lines everywhere. Perhaps.

Other problem with that, besides the potentially dodgy resizing, is you have to change the audio speed with a separate problem. So if you can play it back, and can abide the funny things it sometimes does to colour, make it the 24fps NTSC (480 high) style instead.

Back after a long time away, mainly because I now need to start making up vidcapped DVDRs for work and I haven't a clue where to start any more!
