    How do I convert a single downloaded .vob clip to a avi or mpg?
    Then edit that clip, trim parts that I don't want out?

    open it in DVD2AVI, then save project. Framserve to VirtualDub. Save as AVI or whatever.

    The most direct way is to use VobEdit or Xmuxer to convert your .vobs to a single mpeg2. You can do whatever you wish with the mpeg2.
