I've just bought a Canopus ADVC100. I'm connecting a VHS VCR to it via Svideo cable and then into a firewire port. The capture is in B/W. The company that supplied the Canopus said it was because the VCR was VHS and not SVHS.
However, I can connect the same VCR to a different Analogue capture card on the same PC with an Svideo cable and the capture is in colour.
Composite capture is in colour on both the capture card and the ADVC100.
Anyone have the same problem with the ADVC100. Are the suppliers telling the truth or is there a fault on the Canopus ADVC100.
Forgot to mention. I tried a different Svideo cable that resulted in colour that was very dark, composite was a lot brighter.
Thanks

This is obvious, but did you check to see if the DIP switch was set for PAL ?? Default is NTSC.
Also you might try a composite to S-video adapter like the one the sell at Radio Shack.
I would look at your DIP switches first. -

Also try a diffrent S-video cable, when the cables go bad, which is very often if you don't treat them well, the video normally will appear in just black and white.

Thanks for the replys.

Dip switch is definately correct, NTSC will not play at all. The composite to Svideo adaptor does work but will that give me a better picture than just the composite on its own?.
The Svideo cable is new, supllied with the ADVC100. As I mentioned a different (older) cable gives colour but very dark.
Anyway, I've got Canapus UK Support looking at the problem along with a more serious one I would like some advice on.
I'm connecting VCR --> ADVC100 --> EZDV card
Every so often when capturing I get a few frames of multi-coloured dots that are not on the original tape.
This does not happen if I connect the following 2 ways :-
VCR --> ADVC100 --> Firewire port
Digital Camcorder --> EZDV card
As you can see the ADVC100 works with firewire and the EZDV works with Digital camcorder but they wont work together even though both are made by Canopus and were bundled together.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks
