  1. Hey Guys,
I just got my Apex AD500W at Walmart 2 nights ago, and I have still not been able to find a combonation of settings that will make a SVCD play with having bad characters with skipping playback.

I have used all the default settings (plus tried tweaking settings) in TMPGenc with no luck. I am burning with Nero 5.5.2.4 . I am using some cheap HiVAL CDRWs to do the testing...

I'm getting a little frustrated... BTW the player plays some old VCDs just fine...

Does anybody have any suggestion on what I could be doing wrong?

  2. Looks like it was a media problem...

Can a SVCD be played on CDRW or is this just cheap media?

    Thanks,
    Big AL

Yes svcds can be burned to cdrw. My apex has problems with cheap cdrws too. Cheap cdrs are fine, decent to high quality cdrws are fine but the cheap cdrws just get really pixellated, especially at the end of the disk. I recommend you use cdrs instead.

  4. I own an APEX 660 and have a picture problem with CDRW especially Silver layer (Memorex). I have read from somewhere (might be here) that the best CDRWs for APEX should be Gold layer. Never try one of those myself because I use CDRW just to test VCDs and SVCDs then burn the real ones in CDR (Vibatim Dark Blue layer).

I have a similar issue with my player. Would you check with CDR's and post your findings please!?
Preferably with the same video material you used on CDRW's.

    Thanks in advance.

  6. No problem with Imation CD-RW's on my AD660. Did have a problem with a Memorex Platinum CD-RW after using/erasing about a dozen times.

  7. I burned the same test MPGs on TDK CDRs and the movies played great. I guess the HiVal CDRWs just don't cut it..

I have burned serveral different bitrates of the same movie on the TDK cdrs and all of the movies worked fine.

    Thanks,
    Big AL

Hey Big Al, if you use CDRs to test all your burnt-(s)vcd, I think you will waste a lot of CDRs. Sometimes we need to test (s)vcd before. Like Steve said, I burnt a lot of my testing movie in CDRW then erase it and they re-burn it again and again. For economic way, you might go with CDRW for testing.

  9. ya_jai...

If you would have read my original post, you would see that the CDRW was my problem.. I burned the same movies on a CDR to make sure that I didn't have an encoding problem... My last post was in response to Al Bundy's request..

Please do not post lame comments...
