  1. I always thouvght that dvd-r movies i make as backups that skipped were media related but now im begining to wondering. I tried to play a dvd-r movie backup on my samsung v1000 burned to Optodisk media (burned at 2x on my sony dru500a). And like the accu media i tried before, i got skips, and blockiness all over the video. Strangley though with what is supposed to be shit, Prince 1x, plays back fine. Ok, so i figure its a media prob right? Then i tried playing back that optodisc burn on antoher dvd player i had (Some APEX model stand alone), as well as my PS2. Guess what? Plays fine, no skips whatsoever.

Now i'm a confused newbie, Does this now imply that my Samsung V1000 is the big problem here, and NOT the media afterall? And if this is the case, what iis recommened as a good dvd/vcr combo device?

    kthx

  2. I don't know about combo players but the $47 Mintek 1600 from BestBuy will play anything you can throw at it except DIVX.

  3. Dave:

I've got the same player (Samsung V1000), had problems with the following:

    1. Divx converted to mpeg2 compliant dvd authored with Ulead MovieFactory with chapters. The movie seems to skip forward at random to the next chapter.

    2. Backed up a dvd with SmartRipper and authored with Spruce Up with chapters. Same skipping problem.

Used Memorex DVD-R and Maxell DVD+RW media.

Also have the same Sony DRU500A burner.

I really question whether its the media since I have burned dvd backups on both that haven't given me any problems after several playbacks. I too am looking for an explanation as to this problem.
