  1. so I downloaded an .avi file and I couldn't play it, so I thought I could re-encode it with Virtual dub, i managed to do so but the audio is fucked up, if i just re-encode the video i get it to play fine but if I try to save the audio i get some decompression error, what can I do about this? IS there anything to be done, and please dont say download a new one because that isn't possible....

  2. What does the decompression error say? Also download gspot from the tools section of this web page. Load your film in it and it will analyze the film and identify any problems. At the bottom of the gspot window is a status bar with information in it. After you have loaded the film click on this bar to see additional info. Let us know what it says and whatever else gspot reports.

  4. You sound as if you have already checked it in gspot. What does it say about the audio codec? Is ac3?

  5. I checked it in Gspot when you told me to
audio codec is "0x0055(MP3) ID'd as MPEG-1 Layer 3" which IS installed...
decompression error says "ACM detected error in decompression (200)" or something like that

  6. It sounds as though your audio file is corrupted or you have bad frames. The audio is an mp3 file. Try running the video through Virtualdub mp3 freeze. You can find it in the software section at www.divx-digest.com. There is a guide on how to use it at www.dvdrhelp.com/forum/userguides/142555.php. If that doesn't work try extracting the audio file as a wav file using goldwave which is available in the tools section of this web page.

  7. k, thanks I'll try those things
    EDIT: didn't work...
when i try to load the movie I get the message:
Invalid avi file : chunk at [lots of numbers] extends outside of parent by [lots of numbers]...
Tried Goldwave and it seems to work, just going to play the filer to see if I'm right
So I got an 90 minute audio file with a lot of noise in it, I must be doing something wrong here, just a hunch (btw the actual file is supposed to be 23 minutes)
