  1. Kind of did the same style test here. Recorded a TV show last Sunday with a DC10+ card. Using Tmpeg to compress the video to DVD standard but with 44.1khz audio and minus ad's so I wound up with 6 mpeg2 videos. Used stills from the video as the backgrounds and clip lead-in/out on all but 2 of them and selected chapters. Very simple and easy. Had to go back and recompress due to compressing with B field instead of A field first. Oh well my mistake.

Its like the Tmpeg compressor. Simple with the main tools avaiable and the other needed stuff just a click a way. I like the compress outside with it being a tool to stitch it together.

I want to see if the mutiple track will do what I think it can. With this you could recreate a new menu system for a backup DVD without the ton of junk.

Well, I got neoDVD+ and it was disappointing. I got it because it is the only other consumer level authoring program that accepts VOBs and ac3.

First negative is that it imported the vobs made by my Panasonic HS2 but did not recognise them as DVD compliant. It therefore reenccoded them taking about 2.5 hours for a 1.25 hour video. I believe it reencoded them at a fairly high constant bit rate, taking up more space than the original VBR vobs. The video looked fairly good but to me slightly worse than the original. TMPGEnc author did recognise them as dvd compliant and kept the original encoding.

The menus made by neoDVD have some different options than TMPGEnc but to me less flexible and looked worse. Can you imagine an authoring program that does not allow changing font size?

Also TMPEGEnc author lets you choose whether to keep separate vobs separate or make them into chapters of a new single vob.

Final conclusion, TMPGEnc author is quicker, more flexible and produces a better looking result.

Not necessarily, but worth a try.

? for you all. Have any of you found a way to automatically detect scene breaks when importing into TMPGenc Author? I know you can set breaks at specific time codes or say every 5 minutes or whatever. but can it detect scene changes automatically like some other progs can? I haven't been able to locate that choice if it is there. Then, I've been know to be BLIND!! So far this little prog will do what I basically need and I'm quite happy with it. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Does TMPGenc Author do automating scene detection or does it only allow you to manually set your breaks. I noticed it will do breaks at predetermined times but not auto detection like other progs do.
    Anyone out there know?

  7. As far as I can tell no. Just found/fixgaps. Could be wrong. If you have mutiple section like I had will auto generate a chapter for each video to add.

I would rather select my own chapter and it does make sure you do it on a correct frame to keep problems down.

Had a strange idea and proved to be possible. Took the saved setting from the test of the TV show and added another Track but used a VCD level mpeg1. Have not processed but it took it. Would not take it as a addon to the Mpreg-2/DVD track. So if this works can have a DVD and a VCD level track.

On the Menu page at the top is a drop down list you can select to play Main menu first, the default I think is play the movie. I'm not sure of the exact options as I'm at work.

Newbie here. Just wanted to know about taking my VCD and burning to a dvdr. Using TMPGenc Author do I make a copy of the avseq from the vcd disc to my Hard drive then use TMPGenc Author to make my vobs or should I use the bin/cues ? Just got my liteon dvd -r/+r (sony rebadged) and just wanna put some of my vcd's onto a COMPLIANT dvdr. I wanna make it as compatable as possible for all my family members and friends.
ive searched and read so many articles my head and eyes hurt. svcd2dvd looked good, but really want a compliant dvdr( as comp as poss). Thanks in advance. And just when i knew what I was doing making VCD's, I decide to buy a dvd burner! LOL

    Regarding TMPGEnc DVD Author.
I suppose there is no way to play the sound of the file while authoring?
Find myself going to another app. to get chapter points from sound cues. Of course that is from the original AVI file. So maybe I ask too much from Mpeg2 ?

  13. I love this DVD-author programm!

The automatic menu builder with included chapter pics is very cool.

But .... it seems that you can't author a DVD-R with multi AC3 Audio Channels .... I tried everything, it does not work.

If you capture Tv-Movies including one audio channel and want to bring 1 or 2 movies to DVD-R ... its the most practicable authoring application I know and got a very freindly user interface.

Or does anyone know how to build a DVD-R including 2 or 3 audio channels with the Tmpg authoring tool??????

  15. They do have a good deal if you need to purchase Tmpgenc plus with it.

you can get both for $99 which is why I just bypassed the trial version my tmpgenc plus trial expired long ago

I made my first DVD from 3 mini dv tapes in 5 hours

dvio to transfer to harddrive via firewire 20 mins included figuring out how to use it.

tmpgenc plus batch coded all 3 at the same time 3 hours also included time to figure out how to use it

tmpgenc author in 20 mins including time figuring how to use it.

    nero to burn 55 mins

Played well in my standalone Apex

The first time I run this TmpgDVDauthor appl. I was very impressed!
Very easy, very useful and it makes really fun to work with.
A long time I authored DVD-Rs on a MAC using DVDstudioPro a perfect appl. well designed, easy to use, and professional.
And so I hoped that such a kind of DVD authoring appl. will be on the PC sector too.
And so I thought this when running the first time TmpegDVDauthor.
But I do need to author DVD-Rs with multi AC3 support, so I hope they will offer an update soon which will fix this problem! If this problem will be fixed I think many users will change and use TmpgDVDauthor!!!

    Well, let's hope!

I'vebeen using this for a while and find it simple to use and it does what it claims to do. One quations I have for all of you is,,, Does any one know whether you auto set scenes at the actual scene change as aother eidtors can. I've only been able to manually set thte scene breaks or choose a time like avery 5 minutes. If there isn't such a feature, I'm still happy with it.

    Thanks

  19. Hi all,
Decided to try this as I wish to use TEMPGEnc encoder and guarantee that re-encoding would not be forced by the authoring programme. (So many posts seem to suffer this problem)

Made super DVD but programme is quite limited :-

    1. Can't move text boxes. I used "Cloud 1 " but the title box on the first page is too high and cannot be moved. This is common throughout the themes.

    2. My video is one track with several chapters but TEMPGEnc assumes multitrack with chapters below (and therfore forces an obsolete track page)for 5 out of the 7 themes. (The 2 remaining have text rather than scene buttons).

    3. No undo (If you make a change you have to quit without saving)

I'm new to this but it looks as though I require more flexability. I've looked at Ulead Movie Factory2 and Sonic DVDit, both of which have posts re forced re-encoding.

    Any recommendations,

    Thanks

  21. Just found out it does inforce the region when it creates the disk.

Worked on a 90minute program to go onto a disk from another show last weekend. Well using mpeg audio it went over and did not feel like replacing the audio with AC3. Plan on using one of the avaiable tools and low and behold it said protected! Very strange but finaly go it to fit.

Intersting that it adds in the region. I guess to make the disk it generates compatable with players.

  22. I‘ve made two DVD’s with TMPGEnc DVD Author and found it incredibly fast. Since it doesn’t render the mpeg code after it been cut, split and joined the compiling is quick. I took a 2 hour tv special removed the commercials then built the dvd source. It took 13 minutes to complete a 1 hour and 20 minute feature. Took another 10 minutes to burn a +rw with Nero. No problems other than a strange audio beeps I get when playing back on my pc using WinDVD (repeatable). I did not get them when played back on my Toshiba SD 4700 DVD home theater unit.

As for author software itself other than lacking the ability to move using time stamp HH:MIN:SEC:FRAME it is well done. I would have preferred also to set stoptop edit points using this common practice in additional to the choices provided. And the strange audio beep..

I would purchase it in a heart beat if the price was about half of what they are asking, I am testing some other DVD author products as well.

    Test Case:

Import source: MPEG2 (DVD Ready) captured with Pinnacle MovieBox USB (2 hour movie with commercials).

TMPGEnc DVD removed commercials, clean start and finish with default title.

Nero 5.5.x.xx to Verbatim +RW DVD drive x2.4
    Video @ 6000 Kbps, 29.970 fps, res. 720*480 (16:9), MPG2 = MPEG 2 (SVCD/DVD), Supported

  24. My Thoughts on this program, Great a Program that lets me use DVB format Video/Audio streams directly.

    IE 544 by 480 resolution.

I was using Ulead MF2 and it works but I can only do auto chapters with it, which means no editing either as I cannot see the video until finished. Also MF2 very slow compared to DVD Author program.

What I do now patch first header only, Vs Patch all with MF2, Timesaver!
    Add videos
    save
    close DVD Author
    Patch back to DVB resolution
Open DVD Author, load saved project.
Edit. Trim start and end. Add Chapters etc. Unlike MF2 I can see the video to edit and set manual chapters with this program.
Set up menu to only use chapters that are the start of the video on multi video DVD. The chapter skip function on the remote still works.
Create (Author) I timed last night it took approx 10 to 11 minutes for a whole DVD.
    Burn with nero.

Last night I caught up on doing DVDs from DVB with this little GEM!, I authored 5 DVDs & Burned 4 between 8Pm & midnight while watching TV when the computer was busy. This includes the three 90 minute videos I had to Mux with TMPGEnc Plus since it wouldn't load them without muxing. It gave some error message. Others give a out of DVD Spec GOP warning but they load and so far they all appear tp work fine. P4 2.66Ghz 1GB Ram 7200 RPM drives. Therefor your timing may vary from mine.

These play on all my DVD players so for me it is the simplest method and a large timesaver. have had a very hard time finding anything to reliably load these DVB MPEG2s for editing. This so far, knock Wood, works great, lets me edit etc.

The strange thing to me is that I cannot load these into TMPGEnc Plus to convert or trim, But can Mux them with it and that the DVD Author program displays and edits them.... But whatever works.

If any interest I can do a Guide with images and exact step by step instructions.

    Cheers

So far so good. I'm making a DVD of VCD episodes. Everything is fairly easy to figure out. The only thing I don't like so far, is NOT being able to move items around. Does anyone know of/tried editing/making templates???

Hi guys just a problem i encountered. I usually use the vcd pal template in TMPGEnc to encode movies the vcd(dvd2avi>TMPGEnc) now needed to demux sound change to 48k and remux. To avoid this, this time i set the settings manually, everything went fine untill i imported the videos in TMPGEnc DVD Author which gave me some error about GOP something something. Was wondering if anyone knows what settings i should have on the Gop tab.

    Thanks
